The City of Sarasota has voted to charge boaters to "stay-in-the bay" at City Island. Voters, including commissioner Clapp, say the bay is being polluted by irresponsible boaters who dump sewage. Commissioners agreed to allow Jack Graham Inc. to build a mooring field that is estimated at $650,000 and includes a coin operated laundry mat, restrooms and showers. Boaters deny there are pollution problems and are unhappy with the estimated $250 in monthly fees which amount to only a fraction cheaper than the boat docks at the marina. Jack Graham Inc's whose restaurant and marina's lease was also extended to 2047 will give the company control over most of the bay property. 5% of gross revenue received from the Mooring Field will be remitted to the City of Sarasota.
