My Computer Crashed. Is it ok if we delay your closing for a few days?

I don't think any of us would want to say that to a client.  As my next penny pinching tip to Realtors and Fellow Business Owners I'm offering something better than Aspirin when your computer crashes.

Although you may have your virus protection, firewall installed, spy-ware program watching vigilantly it is a sad fact that your computer will fail.  Not IF but when it fails the scenario will play out like this

You're right in the middle of doing business whether it be creating docs for a client or drafting a contract or anything really important.  After you get that adrenalin rush and then that sick sinking feeling in your stomach you realize that you are up a creek without so much as a spoon to paddle with.  Even worse in our digital age you've lost precious family pictures on your hard drive.   Poof... they're gone forever.

If you have had this to you or fear that it will eventually happen to you then you owe it to yourself to start backing up your drive offline... as in nowhere in your house.  Disks will fail, CD/DVDs can be scratched by the kids using them for coasters.

Don't Panic

Would you believe that there is a free service for that?  It's called Mozy. For absolutely $0 per month you can back up 2 gigabytes of data. Click here for more information on MozyFree.

Now if you are like most of us you may have just a wee bit over 2 Gig.  In that case you'll want to take advantage of MozyHome that offers unlimited amount of backup.  I've personally been using this service for several months now and I have over a terrabyte of storage on my systems. Click here for more information on MozyHome.

If you are a broker and want to make sure all of your Agents or Loan Officers have backups of their laptops then you may want to take advantage of MozyPro. Click here for more information on MozyPro.

In conclusion, in today's business environment can you really afford NOT to back up your data?   ummmm I didn't think so.  Until my next installment safe computing and happy Closings!

I have a 300 gig backup hard drive. I also have an 8 gig memory stick so I can transfer business files between my desktop and laptop. There's no way I'm taking risks with my data. Oh. I also have a smart phone with Windows Mobile, so I never risk losing my contact info, among other things.

The neat thing about Mozy is that it's encrypted coming, going and on the web site.  It's also passive and keeps things backed up continuously.  One neat thing is that you can access your data from any computer world wide.  Handy if things like a natural disaster occurs or there is a fire that destroys everything.

For Mac users, you can also use Apple's MobileMe service, an online backup tool. Mac's also come with backup software built in to the system software, so you can purchase an external hard drive, and have your data backed up continuously, and wirelessly.

Mac or PC - BACK IT UP DAILY.

Hey that's pretty awesome on the Mac.  Definitely should backup daily. Mozy works on the Mac too.  The thing I like about it is that it just runs.  I'll check it now and again but it just goes like the little bunny... on and on and on backing up as it goes.

I've done my due diligence on a LOT of backup services, and there are some good ones out there. But in my experience, I've found Mozy to be the one that the industry is always compared to. They seem to have set the bar that all other backup companies try to reach. Plus, they're a global company owned and operated by EMC, which is a Fortune 200 company. MozyPro offers 24/7 phone support, a 30-day moneyback guarantee, free versioning storage, and no long term contracts. They also have fantastic reviews from the general public, which to me, ends up being the most important thing. Check it out at www.mozy.com
