We Are the Lucky Ones !

One of my favorite movies is "Meet Me In St. Louis."  I remember the part where Judy Garland's character is talking about how lucky her family is to live in St. Louis with the World's Fair being in their own backyard.  It is great to be a part of this city.  There is so much to enjoy.  In the next few weeks, I will try and express why I feel this way.

Reason #1:  Food!  The city has a multitude of restaurants to choose from and I am not talking about chain restaurants.  My husband and I go to Biggie's on most Friday nights. It is located at the corner of Watson and Arthur.  We enjoy going there because the waitresses are friendly and efficient.  It has a neighborhood clientele and frequently my husband sees friends from high school.  Mind you, he is in his late 50's.  I recommend the mustard wings, the house salad with their home-made creamy italian dressing, the roast beef sandwich on cheese garlic bread with waffle fries, the cavatelli is good, and their pizza is a favorite among my family.

If you want to get lunch on the go, I recommend Mom's Deli on Jamieson.  There is something about a Mom's special that will make you come back again and again.  The bread is always fresh and they sell Dad's cookies, so you can have dessert.

The nice thing about both of these eateries is that they are only ten minutes from my house.  I don't have to take a highway, I can just drive there on city streets and there are a lot of different routes i can take, so traffic is never a problem.  I have many more favorites, so if you are coming to the city and have a question about where to go or have a favorite restaurant here in St. Louis, let me know. I'd like to hear from you.

Hi Georgia, I have to agree with the Food part. It's the one thing I remember about Missouri! Good basic American eats!! Of course I could never live there, I would be eating all the time:)

Some of the best restaurants in the world (IMHO) have "mom" or "dad" in their names:

  1. Dad's BBQ
  2. Mom's Pancake House
  3. Mom' Bakery
  4. Dad's Hole-in-the-Wall Restaurant

If I thought real hard, I could probably name a dozen more.
