Several years ago when I was working as a home inspector for my marketing guru's home inspection company, we did an inspection at a three-bedroom townhome that, according to authorities, had 83 cats living in it.

After seeing the place, and trying to count the cats that were still there, I don't doubt it. The conditions were deplorable, and the owner was being forced out by the Home Owner's Association. The owner said that she just couldn't find it in her heart to turn the cats away when they came to her door.

Now in this morning's paper comes a story about 157 dogs being found in a three-bedroom home in Tijuana. The owner, a leading Mexican playwright named Edward Coward, said that he "cannot stand to see an animal looking for help." Folks, this is not the kind of help that these animals need. Tijuana is known to have a large number of street dogs, but this is not the way to solve that problem.

Fortunately, the amount of publicity that this has attracted has caused the city of Tijuana to discuss the problem and how to solve it. Let's hope that the city and the people of Tijuana can arrive at a humane means to deal with our fine furry friends.

Hi Jim, This is so sad. These animals deserve a good home. Sometimes the spotlight of media attention to the community can affect a positive outcome.

Jim, I can't imagine 157 dogs in a 3 bedroom house, but they obviously need to come up with something.  Unfortunately they'll probably come up with the same solution that many of their northern neighbors do.

The conditions of the house, the animals and the people in the house must have been deplorable. Some people just seem to "collect" animals like other people collect stamps, personally, I think it's some sort of disorder, but unfortunately the innocent animals are the one to suffer.

Jim, I wouldnt count on Tijuana doing anything that would be in the best interest of the dogs.  I would think a rescue group north of the border would offer help.  I can't fault people for their kind hearts, misguided as their deeds turn out to be.

Jim, there have been several large groups of dogs found abandoned here locally. At least they have been adopted and have gone to folks that want them here.

I saw an episode of the Dog Whisperer dealing with this issue. An American rescue group goes down to Tijuana and rescues dogs from the pound. Apparently they electrocute dogs to euthanize them instead of spending money on the drugs. They showed this ugly device with battery cables attached. It's too bad this gentleman can't use his fame to get a network going instead of 'hoarding' them.

ToulaRosebrock.comHi Jim:

WOW...157 dogs!

I'm glad to hear that this situation is a topic of discussion to resolve the issue of all the street dogs there.
