January 2009 real estate statistics were in the paper this morning, and for the seventh consecutive month, home sales were up in San Diego County over the same month a year earlier.

Although the 2,459 sales were up almost 35 percent, that's still substantially lower than just three years ago. However, projected over a full year, with January being one of our poorer months due to rain, that would create at least 30,000 sales throughout San Diego County for all of 2009. I find that encouraging.

In addition to sales being up, the median price fell to $280,000, which means that almost 45% of San Diego households earing the median income of $72,100 can now afford a house in San Diego County. That's up from a mere 7% just three years ago when the median home price stood at something like $539,000.

With money from the Stimulus Bill now in the pipeline, and apparently more money to come to help the housing marketing, I'm looking forward to the rest of this year. Let's get out there and show the world that this is America, and we help people buy and sell little pieces of America, little pieces called real estate!
