Here we are at Keller Williams Realty Family Reunion in Orlando, FL.
Back home when I told people I was leaving town for 5 days to attend our company's Annual Convention, most folks immediately quipped: "Don't you just HATE having to go to conventions?"
Before I started attending Family Reunion, I DID hate conventions. I'm not a big fan of large crowds and being herded through my days . . . I'm not a born sheeple.
Besides, I would MUCH rather be home with my family.
Here's why I LOVE attending Family Reunion . . .
Yesterday was the first day. Our Tennessee "delegation" flew down on an early flight so as to be able to attend the first event . . .a "bonus event" as a reward for those who pre-registered early. The flight was smooth - Weather was beautiful - the trek to the hotel was not fun because I had opted for the usually quick and easy shuttle instead of a cab. this turned out to be a bad choice yesterday - Took longer to get to the hotel from the airport than it took to fly from Nashville to Orlando . . . but we made it and got checked into the hotel.
The registration process for the event was smooth as silk, and the first event was to start at 3:00.
"Down is the new UP!"
We were privileged to have 2 hours of pure Gary Keller "unplugged" as he candidly talked about how best to deal with the market we are all facing. Gary's comments aligned VERY closely with my personal view, so this was a validating experience . . . and as usual, he had some surprises for us.
"Succeeding your way to success is a MYTH!"
"Those who succeed are actually GREAT FAILURES who keep going."
It's time to shed the "entitlement mentality" that many of us have developed through the "good years"
"EVERYBODY FAILS!"
It's those folks who don't allow failure to stop them who ultimately "succeed". They'll do whatever it takes and NEVER GIVE UP!
When you fail or come up short of your goals, ask yourself these 2 questions"
1. What HAPPENED?
2. What do I do NOW?"
The secret is being willing to do whatever it takes to stay around (in business) long enough to still be in the business to enjoy it when the market swings back.
Be truthful with yourself . . . "Have you ever made a REAL decision or commitment in your life?"
"We are all Spiritual Beings having a human experience."
SUCCEED by failure!
Don't fear it!
Don't sell out your Spiritual journey to "get" physical reward.
Your time in this physical form is unpredictably short. Things could (and WILL) happen unexpectedly - things that will challenge you to the core.
During those times, it is time to "Ante UP" . . . Crank UP the volume . . . Kick it INTO gear!
there's no room or time for self-pity
TAKE ACTION!
GET INVOLVED in the MARKETS OF THE MOMENT!
All of this was very affirming and motivating to hear . . . and then we had the privilege of meeting 2 very special musical guests...
Honestly after that 3 hours, I "got" enough to justify attending the 5 day convention - and it has not even STARTED yet.
The first guest was Billy McGlaughlin - and AMAZING Celtic guitarist - Check him out at www.billymac.com
Billy was in the height of his life-long success path as a professional performer and doing quite well when his right (primary guitar playing) hand developed a problem which effectively ended his ability to perform.
He went from "Fame and Fortune" to 8 EXTREMELY difficult years of soul searching . . . as he found the Spirit within him to "Master the Market of the moment" . . . Which for him, was the choice to continue his guitar performing as soon as he could "teach his left hand to perform as well as the right hand had been able to."
4 years of practice . . .
and we heard him play 5 songs . . . He's done it and is now back on his path - simply magnificent!
Billy said a few things:
"Take it (your talent) to the people"
Find your niche and develop that with PRACTICE (3-4 hours EVERY day).
"Many people fail because they quit too soon"
"NOBODY sounds GOOD when they are learning how to play a new instrument" (or trying anything new)
"Let yourself sound bad and keep working on it"
The bottom line:
"If there is ANYTHING you want to do with your life, DO IT NOW! ... because you never know when calamity might appear and disrupt your flow"
WOW!
Guess how we ended the ended the day?
Remember the Rock and Roll band THE GUESS WHO?
Yeah! The band that played "American Woman?"
We were treated to a FABULOUS 2 hour concert during which they told us the story of their band and played of their 16 top hits. 2 of the original found members of the band were right up there playing . . . just as they have been doing for the past 45 years . . . and they sounded GREAT!
I could go home right NOW and be content with my Family Reunion experience, but I'm going to stay because I know that there will be many more magical moments in the next few days.
THANK YOU GARY KELLER and all of the folks at Keller Williams Realty who organized this "party"!
YOU ROCK!
Best,
b
I will continue to blog about my experience here at Family Reunion through Thursday. Many of these posts will be not much more than a re-cap - Typing my notes from the sessions, so I apologize if some of doesn't make great sense out of context.
