I have written a lot about the arts in Brecksville and now, music gets its day. I had a wonderful experience last week as I was able to attend the combined Middle School and High School Orchestra event held at the Brecksville-Broadview Hts. High School. Our daughter is a viola player and has been in the Orchestra since 4th grade, which is when it is initially offered in the school system. She has enjoyed playing and we are just thrilled with how far she has come.
What really struck me during this wonderful event was the number of students involved in the orchestra – or shall I say orchestras! Our school system begins orchestra in 4th grade and continues through high school. There are 4 orchestras to choose from: symphonic, concert, string, and chamber. There are two directors: Mr. Valley and Mr. Cocchiola. From 4th grade through 8th grade there are also two directors: Miss Marsh and Mrs. O’Neal.
I have provided the program schedule below to illustrate the pieces that I was treated to. The auditorium, which is truly amazing, was packed – family members of all ages were there. That is another thing that makes these types of events so special—the exuberance that family and friends have as well as the students themselves.
It was a wonderful night—even if the wind was howling outside and snow as falling. It just made this night more warm and inviting. My hat is off to all these students and their directors for their hard work, dedication, and enjoyment of music. Thanks to Brecksville-Broadview Heights school system for making this music program possible!
