Being the Capricorn I am change does not come easily for me. I am one of those spirits that in order for change to happen it has to come about with the same passion and spirit of what I am leaving behind. So when I changed careers 17 years ago it was my passion to be a Realtor that was pushing me forward.

passionFrom the very moment I put on that real estate hat I went to work. Work on building, learning, growing and exploring. On adapting, juggling, stumbling and sometimes struggling. What kept me going through it all and, to this very day still does, is the passion to be and live my life. A life that allows me to help and impact others in a positive way.

Today many agents and many in professions that surround us agents have closed their doors, have lost their passion or never really had it in the first place. Many came into the business in the boom times thinking what an easy way to make some big bucks. No work, no worries, just money, money, money for me, me, me.

Many who have gone by the wayside surely did not have the passion. Their priorities were themselves. 'Them before others. Then when life changed and challenges came about and 'others' had to come before 'them' they fled. Oh no, 'me' is no longer #1. Being in real estate has always been a life chosen with 'them' in mind. It's when 'me' gets in the way that you ultimately fail.

When I look back at my 'other life' there were many challenges there also. One year business was booming, the next not so much. We juggled, we learned, we explored new avenues to generate good will and revenue and we kept plugging along. Passion was alive and we thrived becuase of it.

Today's unique challenges are not easy by any means. But as Professionals in our chosen field we too learn to juggle, to learn, to explore new avenues, to generate good will and revenue just like we did in our previous lives. Back to Basics is something we never left behind because we were passionate about keeping it alive. Our passion is who we are when all is said and done.

Passion for our work, our life, our unique qualities that allow us to impact so many lifes in a positive fashion is what brings each of us through the rough times and unites us as equals. Those of us left standing are doing so with passion.

Our passion is what will keep us alive, today, tomorrow and everyday thereafter.

Great post. We must have a positive outlook and drive to change with the market. Those that do will be in business for years to come.

I've been told about the days when all you had to be was available! If that ever really does happen, I'll think I've died and gone to heaven. I work way hard for way not enough! But I cant stop! Gotta love it! I really do. The meeting all kinds of people, flexibility in schedule, there are some really great reasons to do what we do!

Martha, I think I have a lot of passion but sometimes it takes a kick start to get me going.  I will say I am an annoying pollyanna, but things can get to me.  I think the agents that are self serving will suffer the most.  The ones that truly care about their clients and their well being will make it in the long run, if, like you say their heart is in it.

Martha- For 2 years now I have watched people come and go on this network.  Apparently this is an indication of the "real world" and I will say the "me me" Agents are still here, but are adapting.  Now they are "coaches" and are telling us how much they know, and how they can help the lowly us to be better....some of them make me want to puke at how they act.  Sometimes I think I liked the "give me the money" Agent that left over some of the "I am Wonderful" Agents (purported coaches and social media gurus) that stayed.  Of course this is just my opinion, and that and a buck will buy you a cup of coffee :)

Martha--What a wonderful post!  Every word, every concept parallels my thoughts. In recent days I posted several blogs on Basics but I didn't mention Passion.  Very positive message.
