TO SUIT OR NOT TO SUIT: FASHION POLL

By

I know yall were riveted to your TV last year's Presidential campaign. Among the silliest issues that mass media had were with Hillary and her ubiquitous pantsuits and Sarah Palin's wardrobe. Now the campaign is over, we can pose this 'dress for success' thing in a light hearted debate.

Pantsuits versus Dress Suits

Let me pose 2 fashion questions mainly to professional real estate women of Active Rain. Men are welcome to comment or express your opinion on the matter. Actually I'd like to hear the general public's opinion on the matter too, so everyone is welcome to comment.

Do you think it is important to dress in suits when you are meeting your real estate clients especially the first time?

If the answer to the question above is yes, then pant suits or suit dresses better for women? If you have a preference for one over the other, I would like to hear it.

Now I live in Austin TX and have rarely seen Realtors in pantsuits or suitdresses no matter how important a meeting was, so I don't know how pertinent the issue is.

I used to suit, but I don't suit anymore!  I always dress appropriately for a listing appoinment, but these days slacks and a shirt are more than enough.

Well, you're dressing up more than most Texan Realtors. Texas Tux (white button down shirt and blue jeans), is what's most prevalent among men.

I don't like the matched set suit, but do love jackets, especially with a pocket to stash my business cards in. I usually wear dress pants and a jacket. Occasionally I'll wear jeans and a jacket. When the weather gets warmer I'll just do the slacks and nice blouse. What about you Lydia?

I try to wear something lightweight, sometimes pantsuit or dress suit. It gets awfully hot during summer (actually April through Sept.) in Austin and surrounding towns. Most of the time, I tend to dress in short sleeved blouse and either skirt or pants in summer-weight. No matter what, I do believe in Realtors dressing in professional manner.
