The Santa Clarita City Council has decided to investigate the possibility of the Fillmore rail line extending through the Santa Clarita Valley.

The proposed railway expansion is supposedly designed mainly for passenger trains, but Santa Clarita City Council members fear that freight trains will follow.  Port Hueneme is looking to expand its operations, and those supporting this expansion would like a railway to extend all the way to Victorville.

Although the Santa Clarita City Council may not be able to stop the use of freight trains on the rail lines, they may be able to have an impact on the location of the new tracks. Up for discussion are possible routes through the Santa Clarita Valley that would take the trains away from the more populated areas.
