Yesterday, I wrote about things I've learned on the Journey. Today, I'm going to try to remember some things I've forgotten on the Journey...
I've forgotten how to remember...I'm not talking about the normal effects of aging...forgetfulness...no, this inability to remember I'm alluding to is more like being too myopic...looking only forward...when I know that remembering fond memories has the capability of making them present...like recalling the good old days brings with it a fondness and joy almost as great as when we first experienced those events...CONCLUSION: Make and take time out to remember...!!!
I've forgotten that we must 'become like little children'...to attain our goal...Not behave in a childish manner, or think at the education level of a child...that would be to throw positive growth, knowledge, and wisdom out the window...no, becoming like a little child means retaining or gaining qualities like innocence, colorblindness, openness, trust, imagination, playfulness, excitement, wonder, amazement, acceptance...watch little kids playing at a playground and carefully observe and listen...CONCLUSION: Stop and smell the roses...!!!
I've forgotten how important 'stories' are...When we stop sharing our stories with one another, we no longer create new stories, we retreat inside ourselves and develop a false sense of security...we are our brothers keeper, and cannot exist as an island...we were not made that way...we are made to live in community...needing one another, relying on one another, supporting one another, loving one another...information we accumulate is worthless unless we share it...CONCLUSION: Engage in constructive dialogue and conversation...!!!
I've forgotten my treasure map...you know...the one with the big 'X' on it that I misplace from time to time...marking my ultimate destination...We need to be careful not to lose our focus...not to lose our way...When the Jews did that in Exodus, they wandered for forty years in the desert...they lost their map, their focus...When their eyes returned to their God, they were then allowed to enter the Promised Land...How do we know when we have lost our focus? We need to examine ourselves...we must regularly reflect on where we've come from, how we got here, and where we're headed, else we're apt to find ourselves too far along the wrong road...sometimes the 'road less traveled'is the correct one...heavy traffic is an indication that many are headed to similar destinations, but heavy traffic doesn't insure we're on the right road...and in this world of GPS and bottom line diplomacy, we may fail to observe the signs along the way...CONCLUSION: Don't be in such a hurry to get there, enjoy the journey...!!!
I've forgotten how much 'fear' is a part of our lives...It is said by some that fear is a great motivator...I see fear, however, as a hindrance, hamstringing us from the real freedom that our Creator intended...like it or not...we must read the manual...Actually there are three ways to master operating a piece of equipment...we can commit the manual to memory, we can spend a great amount of time trying to figure out how the equipment works through trial and error, or we can blend the two together...read and understand the manual, then confidently address the equipment...without fear or doubt...CONCLUSION: You can't get to know someone without spending a lot of time with them...!!!
There are plenty more things I've forgotten along the way, the journey...I'll continue to share them with you in other posts! I just can't remember them right now...!!!
