Sounds kind of funny, but getting a divorce is one of the largest reasons to have an impartial home inspection done on the home.

I have worked with many couples over the past ten+ years who are getting divorced and I must admit that I feel that the home inspection of the property has helped in the overall process.  Everyone knows upfront what the pitfalls are going to be with the home.  Most of the time it is the "mom" with the two children that gets the home and then discovers a few months after the divorce that the roof needs replacing and that the crawlspace has a few inches of water in it!  At this time it is to late!  She owns the home and the leaky roof and wet crawlspace!  Now with limited funds she has to make the repairs all on her own.

If the home is inspected then the unexpected surprises will be minimized.  It is just not fair for one party to get stuck with a money pit of a home.

A Nashville attorney has developed a training program for real estate agents to train and certify them to work with individuals who find themselves in a divorce situation.

I urge all Realtors to look into this program.  It is my understanding that it is gaining speed across the country.

These are uncomfortable situations when you inspect these homes but there is a definite need.

Scott, Great post. I would never have thought of a divorce situation as a reason for a home inspection, but now that I think about it I can see the point.

I must admit that it is not fun to do this type of work, but I look at it almost like a ministry.  It is allowing me to use a talent that I have to help what is left of a family.  It does have some rewarding moments, but you can't always count on those.

When you work with divorcing couples, you will be seen as the bad guy or the opposition by one side.

I ran across this concept a few days ago.  This particular group was pitching a "teleseminar" for $249 to learn how to do it and promote it.  Bottom line, it would be an area to explore, there is a valid reason to do them and it does take the RA out of the equation. Not that the RA is a problem but there is a certain vested interest (at least two more) at play when they are involved. "Too many cooks spoil the stew"

I have contacted a few divorce attorneys with a promo piece.  We'll see how it pans out.

Danny;  It is just by word of mouth for the most part.  You can also contact some divorce lawyers and RE agents who are familiar with this program.  I have found that word of mouth is the best way.
