16 Comments on Wiley Coyotes
We have them around here now, but they are not very common with heavily populated areas here. They stick mainly to the country.
Hey Alan,
I'm not a fan of coyotes. They eat our cats. :(
I've heard that they are the only large mammal that has been able to increase their population since Europeans arrived in America. I guess that's partially because we've killed off most of their competition.
Actually, Bruce just hit the nail on the head with our feelings about coyotes around here. My mother-in-law lost several cats to them. That is one of many reasons that our cats are of the indoor variety now. On another note, my client saw an actual roadrunner today in her garage that ran away when she opened the garage door. Beep-beep!
We see quite a bit of wildlife here. We're on the southern edge of the city, though. We see fox, deer, coyotes, 'coons, 'possums, hawks, owls, snakes. Found a copperhead in the garage one day. My husband still makes fun of the way I came running into the house screaming, "Snake! Snaaaaaaake!"
I am glad that Gus-gus was safe and in the house! I'll watch out for Tweety Bird. Between your coyotes and Jason's roadrunner this is turning into a cartoon.
JL - when we see on in our area, it makes the news. Last year, there was one lone coyote in downtown Chicago dodging traffic. Animal control captured it and released it many miles from the city.
Bruce - yeah... I imagine that small animals aren't safe from coyotes. There are, after all, impressive predators (not at all like the clients of ACME products in the cartoons)
Jason - I suppose that coyotes are much more prevelant in your area. Nice to see they didn't get that roadrunner. Meep Meep!
Heather - A snake is one thing, a copperhead is entirely different. Maybe next time you should scream "Copperhead... Copperheaaaad!"
Lourdes - yes, we've milked this one pretty well, haven't we?
I live on a valley and see all sorts of creatures wandering through the yard!
PS. Back in the 80's, Wile E. Coyote filed the biggest product liability suit on record against the Acme Co. I don't know waht he collected but it was not enough!
Russell, I was unaware of this... but a little "googling" (don't you love that Google is a verb now), and I came up with this:
Wile E. Coyote vs. ACME
Alan, I didn't stick around long enough to try to figure out what kind it was. LOL! Perhaps I should just scream that no matter what kind it might be?
heather, i totally understand... I wouldn't have hung around to find out either.
Wow, fresh cut - I lost my kitty this weekend, probably to the coyotes in the woods behind my house...It's so sad - I feel like I lost a member of my family!
Teresa, I'm sorry to hear that.
Regardless of coyotes... they say the average lifespan of an indoor cat is 12 years, as opposed to an outdoor cat (based on disease, predators, crossing busy streets) is only 2 years.
Alfonse - We have had many coyote sightings here in town. In fact, I have a photo on my blog that I took right outside my office of one. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. He was pretty calm and just sat there as I snapped photos.
yeah, these two weren't phased by me at all, Matt. I was just another large predator with a soft mechanical purrrrrrr.
Alan, that is awesome to see wild animals in the uban area, they must be looking for food!
Caren - it was truly interesting.
