I return comment for comment. It's amazing what technology can do for us if we'll explore it in all its beauty.

I have three cameras, the one that I carry with me and use whenever I need it, a spare one at home, and another spare one in the car. Of course, with all these cameras, I discovered several years ago that rechargeable batteries was the only way to go, so I have rechargeable batteries and both AC and DC battery chargers everywhere.

Along with my previous post last year about things you can do with your digital camera other than just taking still pictures, here's some other things you can do with your camera:

  1. Prepare for losing your camera - Write your name, phone number, email address, and any special instructions, reward, etc., on a piee of paper. Now take a picture of it so that it is your first picture. If you lose your camera, the finder will know how to contact you.
  2. If you're traveling with a family, take a picture of everyone before setting out for the day. If you become separated, you'll have a picture of how everyone was dressed that day, making it easier to find them.
  3. If you're traveling alone, take occasional pictures of landmarks, signs, city limit signs, etc. If something happens to you and the camera is found, they'll be a record of where you last were.
  4. Take some pictures of your hotel, street signs, and nearby landmarks to help someone find your hotel if you need help.
  5. Underwater wildlifeTake pictures of your luggage from several different angles to help the transportation company locate it if it is lost.
  6. If you get a rental car, take pictures of the car from several different angles, both at the beginning of your rental period and at the end so you can prove any damage, or lack thereof.
  7. Take pictures of unusual things and blog about those pictures on your ActiveRain blog so we can all see them.

Great suggestions Jim.  On a recent trip to Cuba, 3 of us left our winter coats on the airplane.  Fortunately we had pics of us wearing them at the departure airport that we were able to supply to the airline to help them find our coats out of the hundreds they have in their lost and found.

I agree, great tips. #2 is a wonderful idea, if traveling or even on a family outing to unfamiliar areas. Very useful with children.

I love my digital camera and need to do as you say, take more photos of things.  I enjoy the photography of some of our talented AR members and I like the fish picture you took, interesting angle.
