What Was YOUR Best "Hero" Moment?

I was a new agent at the time and just didn't realize how hard some things were. I was working with a young couple, two kids, a cat, 2 dogs. No one wanted to work with them. Were they rude? Uncooperative? Disloyal? No they just wanted to buy using their Cal Vet Loan.

Funding was tough, hard to get. The Cal Vet fund ran out of money many times. Estimated waiting time was 6 months to a year to fund.

Our office had an older property in the country. The owner needed to move. I got him to agree to do a lease while waiting for funding.

Disaster struck. There was a problem with the septic tank/leach fields. The owner helped. We got extensive work done adding more leach lines.

We CLOSED ESCROW!! I went to their open house party. I walked in the door, introduced myself to several people - "Oh, YOU ARE THEIR REAL ESTATE AGENT!! Awe was written on several faces. The new owners were beaming and introduced me to EVERYONE.

I felt 10 feet tall. I was a hero and have never forgotten that moment. I am working with first time buyers again and looking forward to more great moments!

Eileen: My favorite "heroine" moment was when I saved a single-parent teacher & mom from foreclosure by short-selling her home... being the fourth Realtor to have the listing... and finally was successful. I was very pleased with myself... if I may say to. Thanks for asking.

My best hero taking a couple to look at a house in their approval range of $40,000 and the house was a REO with caved in roofs, uneven flooring and just plain filthy, but it was in their range. I asked them why they could only afford $40,000 and they said because of credit. Their lender did not even suggest to them that they could easily fix things on their credit report. So I told them how, it took 3 or 4 months and they bought a nice newly built 2 story home for well over $120. They were in awe!

Eileen, I don't know about hero, but my first client and I were equally pregnant at the same time and delivered within a few weeks. We took our toddlers to play in the same park. The real thrill came when I sold their "toddler" her first home.

Wow, your story gave me chills! I could feel your excitement and it's contagious!

Eileen-Those are the ones that give your pure satisfaction! Congrats to you! Mine was working with this wonderful single Mom that had one child and was determined to buy a home. We had to repair a few credit issues and she diligently took care of them so she could buy her 1st home! We looked, looked, toured and toured and finally found the house of her dreams. There were several other hurdles we needed to overcome. It makes my head hurt to even think about them again! Anyway, she moved in and had a housewarming party and I received a similar welcome as you! Best to you~

I have a STUPID hero moment! This happened in the early 80's when I was a new agent.

I was working with a couple with 4 children. They were well-heeled and very nice!

I couldn't find them a house. They wound up buying a FSBO.

Several years later, they called me back. They were about to lose the house. The husband lost his job. We were looking for a lease-purchase. None were to be found.

They were about to be thrown out. I had a half empty house, after divorce. I allowed them to move in with me, with their furniture and a dog. Gratis! Fortunately, they farmed out the kids!

I was a captive in my own house, as was my cat.

Two and one-half months later, he found a job on New England. They moved out.

They left me a nice note and a large package of pork chops!

Hi Karen; Any time we affect someones life in a positive and profound way, we can be a "hero". That toddler had a much more stable environment living in their own home!

Hi Mary Kent; That is wonderful story. So many agents would not have taken the time you did to help repair her credit. They would have just gone for a quick sale.

Barbara; I would NOT call that a stupid hero moment. You were incredibly compassionate! You did not get the thanks you deserved. I like to think you have created incredible energy and good karma from that good deed and that others will repair your kindness in some way.

Those dreaded septic system problems! I just hate it when we have a problem with one. Up here is Mass if you fail the septic inspection you will be looking a tens of thousands of dollars to replace it.

Hi Bill; Yes, I cringe if I find out a home is on septic as it's not that common in this area now. Just getting an inspection report is expensive!

I wish I could link you to my moment but I can't. Way back when we had tag clouds. In an effort to prove how useful tag clouds were, I changed a whole bunch of my tags. Unfortunately, I really messed up when I did that. My biggest mistake was removing pertinent tags so I could make a tag cloud that read: "There's a Booger hanging from your nose. Ha! Ha! Made you look :)

Appropriately enough my human test is: Hackberry :)
