Austin's city government is one of the best at making use of renewable energy, according to SustainLane.com, a San Francisco business geared to promoting green living to people, businesses and government.
Austin is ranked sixth on a list of the 10 U.S. cities that use renewables such as solar, wind and hydro electricity. Leading the pack was Oakland, Calif. About 17 percent of that city's electricity is drawn from renewable sources. About 6 percent of Austin's electricity is derived from natural sources.
I used to build homes about 7 years ago and had been looking to implement new construction into my business somehow, so I partnered with a contractor to start building homes. We collectively decided that we wanted to focus on building "Green".
After extensive research we realized that there are a lot of builders claiming to be "green", but they are literally doing the minimum. We wanted to build higher quality homes, that are green, for around the same price point as traditional custom builders. So we are using products such as kama Energy Efficient Building Systems & Bluwood for the joists & rafters. This implements renewable sources & sustainable sources within the walls of the home. Add unbreakable windows & paperless drywall and you've got yourself a Katrina proof house!
I'm more excited about real estate than even before! If you or someone you know is interested in building a Green Energy Efficient home, contact Go! Green Builders
