I cannot believe we have less than one month left of school!  Planning for summer camps for the kids can be very stressful because you don't even know where to begin.

Since we do have 3 kids of different ages, we have done lots of research on summer camps in or close to Miami Shores for our own children and wanted to share this information to make it easier for local families to find activities for their kids.  Please keep in mind that we are not sponsoring any of these camps and do advise that you do your own additional research. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call us either, our kids have attended a lot of these camps, and we can give you the "kids' perspective".

How old are your kids?  My oldest child just turned eight, and I am considering sending him to summer camp this year.  I don't want to traumatize him though by sending him too early.

Stefan - you're not sending him to sleep away camp - you're sending him to have fun!  My kids are 2, 10 and 12 and I started sending them to camp when they were 5.  Just make sure it is a safe environment and it has activities he enjoys (having a buddy go along also helps).

Lisa - I'll go check out your post about Port Orange.

Kelly - thanks so much - it is so difficult to look for summer camps because they wait 'till last minute to advertise, and some don't even do that.

great resource!

it is always good to get the kids signed up for some summer fun

I used to do indoor soccer camps in the summer (think big metal buildings, astroturf, fields the size of hockey rinks, no AC, hot humid Ohio Valley summers)

David - it's not only good....it's NECESSARY!!  My kids need activities, they need intense physical activities to keep me sane! (The Miami Country Day Soccer CAmp is half in-doors and half in Astro Turf...the only negative about the Art. turf is that it is 15 degrees hotter)

Jeff - I have nooooo clue, what do you want to do?

Rick & Ines,  What  a great post I know that took you a long time to do.  I have only 1 child and we are lucky to have his summer camp already set up.

Monika- the funny story about canoeing is that our oldest was like 7 at the time and took him to the Everglades canoeing right after the Summer (we figured they did some minor Kayaking and canoeing...but we were in shock).  He went to the front of the boat and would guide the canoe with perfection and even call out "SWITCH!"....he was only 7!

Matthew- wait 'till he's older, it won't just be one camp - my kids go to soccer camp, tennis and golf, adventure.....and others (it gets kindda hectic!).

Aimee - since this post was done for the summer of 07 - a lot of the camps removed the sites.  This post will give you a good idea of what will be offered for Summer 08, since a lot of them do them every year.  If you have any questions or particulars on each camp, I would advice that you contact the particular community or organization offering the camp.

I will do a post like this one again when we get closer to the summer - unfortunately, a lot of them are not ready with dates so far in advance.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, my own kids have attended a lot of these.
