Having just yesterday returned from 5 days of the BEST family reunion EVER, I dove into the day with enthusiasm and excitement for the possibilities of the day.
For sure, the list of "TODOS" and projects to plan and plans to implement and ideas to brainstorm is MUCH longer than my arm . . . but I'm riding a wave of Adrenalin and know that I can do it.
BAM!
Everything was going great til @ 10:00 AM ...
That's when everyone remembered that I was back.
that's when the phone started ringing and the line began to form at my office door . . .
Each and every new call represented a bit of the many and complicated issues that had accumulated while I was gone . . . that'll teach me to take a week away, eh?
So I guess, I'll start with my newly formed plans tomorrow . . . It'll begin with 3 SOLID hours of Lead Generation.
Now, about these problems. Gary Keller said: "Folks! GET REAL! NONE of the financial issues we are facing in this market are life threatening issues! We WILL all be OK in the end."
This has become my mantra when attempting to settle disputes . . .
"Is this a life or death issue?"
If not, then WHY are you exerting SO much energy towards it?
Is it an ego thing?
Do you just ENJOY conflict?
Are you creating issues because you LIKE hanging out with your Broker?
What's it going to take to convince you to LET GO?
Really folks . . . If all of the energy some folks put into their struggles with other agents and clients could be captured and converted into a useful form, the world energy crisis would be solved.
Here's what I suggest . . . Invite - Gather - Talk - Resolve!
When things get weird, don't go into posturing for a fight . . . Invite the other party to a meeting to sit down face-to-face and discuss what's going on and what solutions might be right under your nose. If you can't see your way clear to do this peacefully, ask your Broker or Team Leader to sit in on the meeting. Just the mere presence of a 3rd party will defuse the situation sufficiently to give air to solution oriented thinking.
Gather together in a small space for the purpose of exploring the issues . . . Minds are open . . .
and TALK . . . Each "side" tells the whole story as she/he knows it . . . differences are acknowledged. This is not a time to argue. It's a time to understand.
Now, it's time for resolution . . . Given all that has just been said, where can we agree? What common ground exists from which we can find an agreeable solution?
Don't expect to "win" . . .
Don't expect to "LOSE" . . .
Expect to be surprised by whatever shows up . . . and enjoy the peace!
Does this sound airy-fairy and pie in the sky?
Don't knock it til you try it?
Unless your issues really ARE life threatening, I think you're wasting your precious time on this earth each time you engage in destructive conflict . . . There will ALWAYS be space and time for genuine contact . . . and genuine contact leads to peace.
Invite!
Gather!
Talk & LISTEN!
Resolve!
