This is something I could agree with Don Miguel Ruiz in his wonderful guide to personal freedom, The Four Agreements. I believe we should do our best, not just suit up ad show up.

On some level, though, everyone does their best no matter what. The level may change depending on the mindset, phsyical conditios you name it . Even if we are sloughing off, we may be doing our best to slough off.

As I am getting ready to go to sleep, I am doing my best just to get through this post because I promised myself I'd do four - not four GOOD ones, mnd, you but FOUR. Be well.

Agree with the premise... I don't know if I agree that everyone does their best.  We make choices and sometimes our choices sap our energy and we just try to get it done as opposed to getting it done well.

This is the first of your posts on the topic that I've read.  I bought the four agreements quite a while back and found it hard difficult.  It didn't inspire me somehow., don't remember why.

I think I'll pull it out a peruse it again, see if I have a different reaction this time round

Kate, it was the same with me. I always use a highlighter and it's easier when I go back, and review that stuff first. I had the same problem with Eckardt Tolle's book everyone was raving about. Interesting that the Buddha also had the four Noble Truths. What is with the number 4, do you think?
