Briggs

I don't know what to do about "Briggy Monster".

She has turned into a monster.  Recently I came home to a window carelessy left open by Nick, and a screen sliced open by Briggs.

I was quite upset.

A week later, I came home after dark, and standing in the middle of the road was none other than Briggy.  Examination of the house showed that another window (NICK!) was left open, and Briggy pushed the screen out.

Last night I came home, and Nick was outside.  I went in the house, and there was no sign of Briggy.  I raced around, checking all the windows, but couldn't find one ajar.

Then I tripped.  Over something sharp and metal.

A vent cover.

Somehow, the little "Monster" lifted the vent cover and had crawled through the ventilation system.  I ran outside, and sure enough, she was running around, her stubble tail wagging with excitement and her tags jingling.

I don't know what to do about her!  The worst part is that when she escapes, she takes Henry with her.  Poor Henry ends up outside and gets terrified, and he runs from me and hides!  So I have to run around the yard calling and shaking treat canisters.  Such a dork.

So all Briggy does now is walk around the house crying.  Her dad, Harold, used to slap me in the face, attack the other cats, and do anything and everything that would upset me so that I would let him outside.  I'm really hoping that she doesn't have the same attitude - but it looks like she will.  Perhaps I'll have to lock her in a specific room by herself when I'm not home.  Crazy, silly Briggy Monster.

I'm a cat lover myself.  I know how sneaky they can be.  My cat, Angel, does her disappearing acts sometimes, too.

Seems like Briggy wants to be an outdoor cat more than an indoor cat?

Brigita - I got home last night and the vent was pulled back up again.  She was still inside, thank goodness, but I have no doubt it was her!  They are so smart!

Gary - She sure thinks so, but she is about the size of a five month old kitten, due to her being sick when she was little.  So I just don't feel comfortable letting her out.

I think Briggy wants a little more excitement!  I notice my cat starts getting "creative" when she is bored.  It sounds like you have your hands full.  Enjoy these wonderful 4 legged creatures.

Gee Joslyn, she's a "pill" huh ?  Hmmm... I wonder where she gets it from.  Remember... cats learn by example, too.

Yep, I'm sure they do.  She gets it from Harold.

And he gets it from.... well, I don't know, but it isn't me.  LOL!

Let's see now:  She gets it from Harold, and he gets it... probably from living with YOU... my dear. LOL  (Waving Hi to Joslyn !)

Yeah, I think I make Harold crazy.

There is a definite genetic attitude trait there, though.

What a great cat!  Appreciate her. I know you do.  We have had several unique cats & dogs.  Our cat Feets (she had big feet) was not afraid of any dog.  She use to go on walks with us and our dog "Packer".  If we ran into another dog, she would sit there and stare the dog down, the dog didn't know what to do (she didn't run away), the dog would finally walk away.  Feets never ran away from a challenge.  Today we have a 3 legged cat named Kittles, he and Packer, are best buddies, Packer is getting old & Kittles is his protector.  Kittles is not only an attack cat but a watch cat.  Twice, when someone has broken into one of our vehicles Kittles jumped on the bed and growled in my ear he warned us & we listened.  We turned on lights & the car thief fled.  The thief did jam the ignition on one vehicle, but didn't get way with it thanks to a cat.  Our gentle dog slept through both events.

Cindy - They sure are amazing creatures.  Harold and Briggy both press their noses against the window, tail bushed out and growling away, when a stranger pulls into our driveway.

My beagle just sleeps through it :)

And you are absolutely right.  I love Briggy just the way she is, and I don't know what life would be like without her.  I don't want to find out.

Joslyn:  You need to get a picture of Harold and Briggy with their noses pressed up against the window.  I bet they look really cute.

You can hardly tell which is which.  Although Harold is still kind of skinny from when he was missing, and Briggy has a short tail.  She looks like her tail is bobbed, but she was born that way.  Harold has a long beautiful tail.

They are quite a pair.

Joslyn:  Do they come to you when they see you on the other side of the window when you come home ?  You might take your camera with you next time... and then walk up to the outside of the window where they are watching you... and take their picture then... and then, of course, show it to us.

Karen Anne - They usually do.  I usually have Harold and Briggy sittin' in the window.

Of course, I never get home before dark anymore.

Sounds like a wild personality! I see this was posted some time ago, so I am curious if Briggy has learned to behave over the last year?

Tricia - Oh no!  She's a spoiled, rotten brat!  She slits screens to escape, needs her own special cat food bowl with her own special cat food,  beats up the other cats, and thinks she's the boss everywhere she goes!  But there is never a dull day with Briggy Monster around!

Joslyn you have your hands full for sure...have you had her "fixed" yet? Does she eat grass when she goes out?...if so maybe you could have a grass plant for her! They are hardheaded for sure, but don't we love them!  Good Luck and keep us updated!

I had a cat that did anything and everything to get out...I finally decided that I couldn't fight him and that he wasn't happy so I let him out.  He was killed on the road when he was 6...I was devastated but I must say, I would not have changed anything.  He had a happy life albeit short.  I think sometimes quality rather than quantity.  I still feel sad for his loss...

Patty - She hadn't been fixed because of her size at that point, but she is now.  She weighs eight pounds, so she's a normal weight, but it's all in this tiny little body!  And she's all muscle.  The grass plant is a good idea, though!  I'll have to try that!

Patrice - That's the hard part.  I think if Briggy was bigger, I wouldn't be so worried about it, but she's so small compared to the other cats.  Her dad, Harold, was the same way, and he would do anything and everything to get out.  I eventually did end up starting to let him out.  He recently was missing for 4 weeks, and I was sick.  He came back home about 4 pounds underweight, and we got him fattened back up again - but I still have to let him out.  I'm sorry to hear about your cat, but you are absolutely right - quality is VERY important.
