It's long been my belief that the number one reason anyone does anything is, they're asked to do it. Oh sure...we do a great many things because we need to do them, or we want to do them...but in at least 51% of the cases we do things because others ask us to do them.
Here are example: Your customers buy a home from you, or request a mortgage because you ask them to. My blog readers subscribe to my blogs because I ask them to subscribe.. Thank you!! You purchase one brand over another because the manufacturer asks you to.......etc. etc..
However, "Asking Others" doesn't always carry over in our daily business lives. We're swamped with work, but for some unknown reason we fail to ask others around us for help. Sometimes we feel we're imposing.....or we think we can handle situations better by ourselves.
What absolute BOSH!!! If you need help and your request is reasonable...and if the person you ask has the time to assist WHY NOT ASK FOR HELP!! There's nothing that gives any of us greater satisfaction than being there to help where we can.
There's something built into the human psyche that yearns to be of productive assistance. The secret is "asking" rather than demanding. If the person you ask says "NO" you're out nothing. They may have valid reasons for declining assistance. More often than not they'll be more than willing to carry out some simple task that will relieve your pressure and create a gap for more productive activity.
Similarly it's up to you to provide assistance where and when possible.
It's by working together that greater things are achieved. Always find some small way of saying thank you. It may be as simple as buying the coffee, or giving a card of Thanks. Let them know this help is appreciated. Everyone needs and deserves a good pat on the back from time to time.
