SOUTHSIDE Fish & Clam Restaurant Lindenhurst Long Island New York

As a Feng Shui Consultant on Long Island and New York, I have done many restaurants over the years that needed a little help with Feng Shui.  Whether it was attracting new customers, checking colors, placement of cash registers or the many different Feng Shui methods we use just for restaurants, I can honestly say this one didn't need my help.

Southside Fish & Clam Restaurant by Feng Shui Long IslandIt would be hard to miss Southside!

Southside is one of my favorite restaurants on Long Island-with some of the best and freshest seafood you can find anywhere.  It is never a disappointment to eat here and since it's opening in 1932, it is one of the last Long Island original restaurants that have survived the test of time.

If you love seafood, you've come to the right place.  It has been highly rated in Zagat's  Zagat Long Island  and AOL City Guide  Long Island, NY City Guide | Search Local Businesses, Events ...and is located in the lovely town of Lindenhurst Long Island.

Southside Lindenhurst by Feng Shui Long Island & New York

The "heart" of this restaurant is it's wonderful, open cooking area where you can choose to watch your dinner and others being cooked to perfection or you can just sit and wait for your number to be called.

Lindenhurst Long Island by Feng Shui Long Island & New YorkThe "heart" of Southside--already Feng Shui'd?

It's not "fancy" and it's not pretentious...it's just great food and plenty of it.  And all at a price you can afford.  Southside also carries some of the freshest and largest selection of seafood you can ever imagine if you'd like to take it home and try your own skills at recreating some of their fabulous meals.

A little tacky?  Maybe.  Once you taste the food you won't mind a bit.  A note here:  Southside in Lindenhurst Long Island does not take reservations.  It can be a long but welcome wait on the weekends.  You might well find yourself sitting with strangers at their long tables....but what ARE strangers, anyway?  Only friends we haven't met yet!

If you find yourself on the South Shore of Long Island, don't miss this treat!  And if you happen to be from Long Island, you probably already know this place.

Ooh Carole, that made my mouth water! I was in Seattle earlier this week and meant to get some fresh seafood while I was there. We got really busy with meetings and ended up eating at Anthony's (a seafood place) in the airport that had a limited menu compared to the full restaurants. That was a disappointment.

Southside reminds me of Captain Kidd's in Hermosa Beach, CA. I go there every time I go home and visit my parents and friends. Doesn't get much better than fresh! What I wouldn't give for a nice succulent crab and melted butter right now. Oops, I just drooled on the keyboard! :)

Looks fun (slightly tacky but then again sometimes we need something a bit over the top and fun).  This sounds like the kind of place my family would like.

Mmmmmmmmm my mouth is really watering now!  As a native Long Islander I sure do miss all the fresh shellfish and outside clam bars!  Great looking place.  If I ever get out near Lindenhurst I will be sure to stop in.  Heck..I might have to make it my next stop.  How far is Lindenhurst from Huntington?

Jeff, That's actually not a bad idea :)  The building is anything but boring!

Debe, This is one of our very few Long Island institutions left....and still wonderful all these years later.

Carol, I love seafood.  I always take home some great and really fresh fish when I go.

Sheldon, I wished that lobster was a robot, he is cute :)  I was not home and unable to get near a computer--thanks for noticing I was gone!

Tom, If you love seafood, then this IS a place for you, it's delicious.

Pat, I love watching them cook the food....and seeing what others are getting to plan for my next visit :)

Libby, I am sorry to say I've never been to Seattle and want so much to go!  I can imagine they have very fresh seafood and I'd plan on looking up the very best restaurants when I finally get there.

Bill It IS fun, I shouldn't have left that out.  Even when we are eating with others we always end up talking (after the eating, of course :)

Paddy, Since there's such big portions, it's great for families.  I really do love to go there and bring home some of that seafood (although mine is never as good as they can make it).

Gary, It is cool and fun.  And one of our oldest restaurants left on Long Island...they have to be great to last that long!

Mel, I never would have thought of that...with any of my posts.  You're right, I'd bet they'd like it and I'll take you up on a great idea!

Fred, I love being about to watch the kitchen as well....It is one of THE places to go for terrific seafood!

Leesa, I love seafood as well.  If you ever come to visit Long Island, it's certainly worth a stop---and not expensive even for a family :)

Joan, It was difficult to chose what to buy to bring home.  I settled on some flounder and wild salmon ( can cook both!).

Janice, Lindenhurst is on the South Shore....Huntington is on the North (as you know).  I love the town of Huntington and spend a lot of time there---do let me know if you're visiting!  It's less then a 1/2 hour from me.

Sharon, They have everything as far as fresh fish. I need some new recipes to learn to cookmore types ( a cookbook might be in order here :)

Diane, You're right.  We have very fancy and we have Southsides and they are terrific here without the exorbitant prices.

Chuck, It would not be a wasted trip....unless you hit the Long Island "Expressway" at the wrong time.  Then it honestly wouldn't be worth it (aka known as the World's Longest Parking Lot.

Sally, Deal!  I do wonder if you could come to New York one day....to see Central Park if nothing else!

Audrey, I enjoy them as well.  We have out choices here on Long Island but somehow end up back at the same places where we KNOW the food is wonderful!

Hi Carole.  I love small local restaurants where you know the staff and how food is handled, and that everyone who works there cares about their work and the customers.

Carole - Wow !  Looks like I would love that place as I do love seafood.  Love the photos !  It is great when the small towns have a lot of history through restaurants like these that have been open sooo long.  Is great for the community to have destinations like these.  I really love the exterior photo and the photo displaying all the seafood !

Carole, this is amazing. I've never done this with a blog before, but I called my son over (he loves lobster and most shellfish - I prefer fish) ... and to make a long story short, we mapped it, and got driving directions.... (9 hour drive).... but I'll have to get a passport first, unfortunately, otherwise I'd come visit you sooner, rather than later. :)

I love seafood! This place looks so interesting..... one of those places that gives you something to look at before you eat and while you're enjoying the food. Lots of fun! If I ever get to Long Island, I'll be sure to try it.

Mike, It is unique...even the fact that it's stayed in business so long.  They have always kept affordable prices and that has certainly helped.

Marzena, As busy as they are they are wonderful.  With some terrific side dishes, you never leave hungry.

Christopher and Stephanie, Except for the shark (which you can't miss), you wouldn't really know it was there.  I do love these older places where only the menu has changed with time.

Sylvie, You don't need a passport to come here, just proof of residency when you cross the border.  Besides if you're coming to New York I'd meet you in the City---you and your son would LOVE the City (and I know just where to go for seafood :)

Linda, Well, if you came to Long Island to go to the Hamptons you'd have to pass this place anyway :)  Everyone loves to see the phenominal homes on Dune Road!

Teri, I wish he waited on you...THAT would be a kick :)  He's my favorite too!

Carole, we used to need only proof of residency, but I thought that 'expired' this year and we now need a passport.... (or maybe they changed the rules again and I wasn't paying attention??)???  I'll have to look into that.  I need a short vacation. :)

Don't tell anyone, but I have NEVER been to New York City.  Sounds like fun.
And absolutely I would meet with you ... anywhere, once I'm on the other side. :)

(just checked and as of June 1st, YES, we will need a passport) :/
(I better get organized ... I don't have one)

I am sure that big shark has "caught" many hungry diners, because he really stands out. Where I grew up in Houston we had Guido's Seafood and they had a giant crab in the parking lot facing the street. People would often ham it up and take photos on the crab, or positioned with one of his giant claws around your head. In later years they moved the big guy to the roof I guess for liability reasons. My dad was friends with Mike Guido, so we went pretty often. Guido's is still my favorite seafood place.

Kathy, You WOULD love this place, it's not at all pretentious, just great food at great prices.

Sylvie, I couldn't believe it when you wrote that but my daughter knew about it.  Wow, get working on that is right!  When I got my passport for Paris I put a rush on it (for a very large additional charge) because I was told they were so far behind.  Get moving, I would love to see you in New York one day!

Betina, I loved your story.  There are not many places here that have lasted so long and I used to love the "mom and pop" restaurants we had.  They're all gone.  I love going to this place because I remember it from years ago, too.

Susan, I think anyone that loves fresh seafood would love this place :)  It's SO good!
