On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the Pleasanton City Council, on a 3-2 vote, approved the completion of Stoneridge Drive as part of the development of Staples Ranch. Currently Stoneridge Drive, a four-lane arterial street with a landscaped median strip dead-ends at Trevor Parkway near the eastern Pleasanton city limits.

The extension of Stoneridge Drive to El Charro Road has been part of the city's General Plan for many years but was never completed due to lack of development on Staples Ranch and political opposition. A combination of developments are now proposed for Staples Ranch including an 800- unit senior housing complex; the relocation of the Hendrick Automotive Group dealerships to a new site adjacent to 580 and the El Charro Road offramp; an 11-acre retail development; and a 17-acre public park featuring an ice skating facility to be developed by a group affiliated with the San Jose Sharks.

In order to approve these projects the City of Pleasanton needed to adopt a specific plan for the Staples Ranch area. Their action Tuesday night included the completion of Stoneridge Drive as part of the specific plan.
