Today's the day to begin looking for Your New Home! Be sure to look for the REALTOR® "R" to be sure you're working with an expert! The South Carolina Association of REALTORS® makes the following suggestions to you as you consider home ownership.
Evaluate your possible down payment and cash for closing costs. Make sure you understand the process from beginning to end!
Make sure your agent is a REALTOR®! Ask what makes a person a REALTOR® and what it means to you.
Meet with lenders to get the loan that's right for you! Take your time gathering all the information you need to make the best decision.
Make a list so you'll know what is most important for you in buying a home. Include features and benefits. Consider price, size, layout, location, and features. Check schools and other family considerations, if relevant.
Compare the homes you have seen to your list of what you need in a home. Make sure the home you choose is a good fit for you and your family. You'll want to consider inspections to make sure that the home you choose has been inspected and you know relevant information.
The mortgage you choose will be determined by many factors; i.e. credit rating, income, down payment. Shop around! Ask questions. Make sure you understand the process!
Be thoughtful in making an offer. You and your REALTOR® will carefully discuss your offer and his or her negotiating strategies. The offer will outline the terms and time line of the agreement. The seller may accept, reject, or counter your offer.
This is another ‘shop-around' process. Ensure that you understand exactly what kinds of coverage you will need for your new home!
At the closing, the paperwork will be signed to make you the owner of your new home. Ask in advance to make sure you understand the process and the paperwork.
Today you'll be doing all those things that must be done to ‘move in'. This will include everything from setting up utilities to meeting your new neighbors. Enjoy your new home!
