Raptor Center in Charlotte NC

On the west side of town in Latta Plantation Park, there is a center that takes care of birds. It is dedicated to envirnmental preservation and providing education about birds of prey and their habitat.

This may seem weird, but this center is located inside the city. It kind of tells you how suburban and green Charlotte the city is. When you fly into the city from somewhere more urban, you really see the difference.

The raptor center is a favorite place for elementary and middle schools to send their children for field trips. They provide a home to a variety of bird species that feed on animals rather than plants or bugs.

Kids can learn about owl pellets, which are basically owl waste products which usually contain mice skeletons. I'm not making this up. This is just what happens. Kids learn stuff about science projects and it's not always chemestry.

But the park is full of trails and full of nature exhibits. So there is plenty of space to walk around and be surrounded by nature. If you really want to learn about nature, and gross things about what owls eat, there's plenty of opportunity for that too, I suppose.
