Blogging and watching DIY Network (Do It Yourself) don't mix.  

I can't believe what I saw.  On DIY TV they actually showed a Do-it-yourselfer take a Saws-All to a gas line that he wasn't sure was dormant.  How lucky it turned out that the line was empty and not connected, but showing somebody taking a metal blade and cutting/sparking though a may-be live gas line, is crazy.  That certainly comes under the "don't try this at home" category.  

Shortly after they showed contractors cutting a granite counter-top with no eye protection.  I cringed as I watched this how not to "do-it-yourself" episode.  They did emphasize how risky it all was, but not nearly enough for my comfort level.  No project is worth risking life, limb, or eyesight.  If you do it your self, do it safely!

This is my public service announcement for the day.

Wow Mike. Thanks for the Public Service announcement. People think that if they see it on TV it must be true. Caution is thrown to the wind. The scariest things I see is no eye protection, no gloves and wearing flip-flops on construction sites.
