Attacked by a dog at my open house today!!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Christiansen Group Realty (260)704-0843

Even though it's only 23 degrees and windy today it is sunny and I thought I was going to have a GREAT open house today!  I pulled in the drive and noticed a yellow pit bull next door.  No big deal, I watch the Dog Whisperer!  I get out of the car and don't even acknowledge the dog until...

YUP, the dog charged me.  I faced the dog and yelled at it to stop, which it did.  Then I was going to back away and the damn thing charged me again and tried to bite me.  CESAR???  CESAR MILAN?????  (Dog Whisperer reference)  What do I do????

I kind of half pushed/kicked the dog away from me, screamed like a 13 yeard old girl and then RAN IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!  I absolutely love animals, especially dogs, but had to push/kick the dog away.  Absolutely scared the crap out of me!!!

The owner came out and got his dog and I asked him to keep her in the garage or something so it doesn't attack any open housers...  I'm going to get some pepper spray tomorrow.

Anyway, hope everybody stays safe out there!

Jared, that is horrible. Won't really make selling that house easy, now will it. Have you had any complaints from realtors showing the place? Leash laws? I love animals, have a zillion of them, dislike irresponsible pet owners. And the neighbor is irresponsible in my book.

I do not have a clue what is the Dog Whisperer, but this would not make me happy. I do not like aggressive dogs, and who does, anyway

Michael:  No kidding!  I have been bitten before and IT HURTS!!  LOL

Andrea:  I learned that it actually wasn't the neighbors dog, but he had taken it in a few weeks ago and fed it because it was starving.  So it's not officialy his doing... just an agressive dog.  :(

Patricia:  It's a GREAT show!  I have learned so much about how dogs communicate.  This one was definitely telling me "I am going to bite you HARD"  :)

Jon:  I agree, aggressive dogs can be a scary thing...

Scarey looking dog for sure.  I would have asked the owners to please keep the dog inside with the open house. The dog would not only potentially do harm to someone but also scare people off.\ Yikes! I wouldn't want to get attacted by this dog, or any do for that matter.\

Not funny at all!  I've heard pepper spray only makes them mad.  Glad you made it in the house ok.

Jared, that picture alone is scary enough for me.  I can't imagine facing a charging pit bull.  After reading your post I thought I'd be picking up some pepper spray too but then read Kay's comment.  Now I'm going to have to research it.

Glad you were OK.

HI JARED!  This is too funny!  The part about screaming like a girl!  Despite near-biting experiences - the photos and blogging must go on! -- Gabrielle

Hi Jared.   I have seen the dog whisperer, a great show.   Even Cesar gets bit now and then, glad to hear you were able to avoid the bite.

You could also carry dog treats and try the reward system.

Hi Jared, Okay, I know this probably really scared you. It surely would have scared me! But your post cracked me up when you said you were screaming like a 13 year old girl (I have a 13 year old daughter at home).  Too funny.  Well, I can't say that dog is going to do anything to help you sell your house next door. Good luck.  I don't know why people have dogs like this!
