Federal Tax Credits - ENERGY STAR Windows

By
Real Estate Agent with EarthSTEPS

President Obama recently signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009. One of the many changes of this bill is to extend and modify available tax credits for windows, doors and skylights. The modifications effectively:

  • extend the length of availability of the tax credits                  - through 2010
  • triple the available limits                                                     - from $500.00 through $1500.00
  • increase the available credit                                                - to 30% of the total cost of the windows

As of February 17, 2009 tax credits are now eligible for new windows with a U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient of 0.30 or less.

Hi Alex--my understanding was that the 30% of cost was limited to commercial.  That residential was subject to the $1500. limit.

Hi Bob,

Great. Glad it could be helpful... There is soooo much new info to sift through right now.

Hi Tamara,

I think we are both saying the same thing... it is a limit at 30% up to $1500 for residential: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=products.pr_tax_credits
