How protected is your data?

By
Home Stager with Stage-Show-Sell

For years and years I've backed up my data.  I've backed up to floppy drives (what a silly name), to zip drives, then to CD and then DVD.

I want my data protected.  A DVD in my office and a back up DVD in the safe in the basement.  All my files from 15 years of Real Estate and personal records have been backed up this way.

Amazed at learning that a regular DVD is only good for 2-5 years I've backed them up again to Gold DVD that are good for 100 years.  These I purchased from Fear Not Computers.  I always gave copies of the closing documents to my clients on DVD or CD so they would ALWAYS have a copy around.

How many of you are relying on DVDs to back up your photos, papers and emails ( yes every email from my clients) not knowing that the life span is so short?

I take hundreds of photos for every project that I'm now Orchestrating.  There are pictures of the before, during and after.   The clients copy will go on a Gold DVD and my computer will now get backed up electronically every day.

P.S.  I'm so greatful the Fear Not Compters (owned by my son) keeps me up to date on security and back up news and information.

I've started backing up on The Note Book. Once you've gotten the blue screen of death you learn never to get caught with out your back up.

I have everything trusted to the server of Top Producer. The good thing with that is that I can get all contacts, pictures, transaction data anywhere I have a desktop or laptop. The concern is that if they every go under...I will have to just start all over! I trust the set up- 16 years of business and they have never failed yet!

Elizabeth,  It's really nice that top producer backs up EVERYTHING for you.....or is it only TP stuff?

I'm totally paperless so it's mandatory that I have all my personal and business backed up to that wonderful computer in the sky AND I have a 2nd back up here at home.  No CDs or DVD except when I want to pass on information to others.

Sandy, I really believe that computers and technology have made things easier.  As I said above I'm totally paperless.  My bills come to me by email.   I go on-line to the banks and pay them.  I not longer have reams and reams of paper in my house getting smelly and moldy.

Technology is a wonderful time saving IF we use it the right way.

HI Virginia!  I back up with Maxtor.  I purchased it at Costco.  It is set to auto run when I am sleeping.  Works like a charm.

Cathy, Where does the back up store?   Is it in the same location as your computer?
