Stand Up and Scream

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker 69190

There is one huge thing that I see spiraling this country out of control. Apathy has gripped our nation like never before and we just no longer see the need to stand up and make our voices heard. I read back through history and see tons of cases and examples of tiny revolutions that manifested in a way that changed the world as we know it. And this all started because a hand full of individuals had simply had enough and started screaming at the top of their lungs.

Our Government no longer respects us, much less fears us the way that it should. After all, we are the voters, at least those of us who vote, that put them in their positions of power that they seem to use against us at every turn in the road. The Government no longer listens to the people, and why would they, the people no longer feel the necessity to voice their opinions and stand up for what they believe in. I'm not saying that we should all have the same opinion, inevitably we will not, I'm just saying that we can't sit idly by and watch the world go to waste at the hands of the people we give the right to ruin it.

There are no lack of topics in politics these days to become passionate about. There are tons of hot button issues out there that anyone who cared enough could grab the ball and run with. There are plenty of stories running through the world concerning the current state of the economy. There's no shortage of causes to take up and attack. Now is not a time for the faint of heart, but now is certainly not the time to sit on the sidelines and allow others to make decisions for you. Instead now is a time to become involved in the world around and see if you can't help salvage what's rightfully ours.

Where the hell is your sense of pride? You won't win every fight in this life, but that doesn't mean that you lay down and take the beating. That was not the ideology that this nation was founded on and it's not the theory that will pull us out of our current predicament. In my opinion, our Government is almost a toxic force that destroys everything it touches and now the world at large seems perfectly satisfied with allowing them to take the lead and become more and more involved in our lives. Well let's face it, they are a part of our lives and they always will be, but Government is supposed to be an extension of us, not the other way around. Bigger Government seems to solve nothing except bigger paychecks for the Government.

Individuals have always tested the boundaries of possibility. Look at all this nation has accomplished since it's beginning and how far it has come today. Do you think that this was all by chance and that our success was the result is sitting back and waiting. No, our success is the result of dreaming up and idea and chasing it down like our life depended on it and at some points in history our lives did. It is the result of vision and freedom that melded together to form a perfect storm of hope and intensity and created the most powerful nation on Earth. Now why would anyone want to just hand that away or sit back and watch it be pulled from our lackadaisical grip?

Apathy seems to be a watchword in this country lately. Get fired up aobut something and everyone thinks your nuts. I get fired up anyways.

I think the majority of the populace just feels beaten down.  Whether someone has lost a job, a house, a stock portfolio ... or even a spouse from the subsequent strain, I anticipate a rubber band effect.  With people feeling so chewed on and beaten up at present, we are largely licking our collective wounds and fail to see anything beyond our immediate crises.  We aren't a nation of quitters, however.  A great deal of energy and passion was depleted in this past election cycle, and I think we have simply hit a lull.  Kind of like camping in front of the tv after a big dose of Thanksgiving tryptophan.  Unfortunately, there will be those who feel depleted from the run up to the election/inauguration to the point that they just want someone else to take care of things from here on out.  These are the folks who will wait for the government to come riding in on an off-white horse to save them from their sundry hobgoblins.  I personally still have plenty of passion running through my veins, but it seems to be chilling out in the capillaries for the time being while I try to discern exactly which way is up.

Richard- We all know you're not pathetic my friend.

Nich- These are trying times in many ways, and I believe people will unfortunately see that the change they were promised is just another false promise from another politician.

Nich- Thank you sir.

Alice- People are listening, they just need to scream along. I will be over to check out your post shortly.

Randy- I refuse to believe that anything is ever too late, people will speak up for themselves eventually. It just takes time and a spark, next thing you know there's a fire.

Kevin- I'm perfectly fine with being thought of as nuts, I've gained that reward before.

Paul- There are many people out there that are beaten down and in a lull. You may be onto something with the election taking a lot out of people, I'm sure it did. But now is not the time to sit back and wait on others to solve our problems and figure out a solution. Neither is any other time for that matter. We have to rely on ourselves.

LOL!  I wondered if I might bait you into responding to my comment.  I actually agree with you that a point will come - whether by fire or by revolt - that this country will collectively pull out of our apathy and wound-licking.  And I for one can hardly wait!  I'll be looking for you, JL, at the next Boston Tea Party.   ;-)

Randy- I always return comments, I feel it's only fair my friend. As for the other, why not, I've never had a good excuse to go to Boston before.

I know you always return comments, JL - but I thought my first one might bring out a little fire in you.  As for Boston, the clam chowder is excuse enough! But clam chowder and tea party in one package might just prove to be irresistible!  Nice post, buddy.

Randy- The fire is here, but I don't have to tell you that. I love clam chowder, but my wife is allergic to shell fish, so I rarely get to have anything like that because she is with me when we go out, so not too many seafood places for us. Now when you throw all of it together in Boston though, she's not missing that party gone out of control, so we will likely be there.

JL - perhaps, to our distress, Schumer was right last year when he said congress wouldn't address increasing drilling because the cost of gas had dropped to an acceptable level. Perhaps he was right this year when he said people don't care about pork.

We need more Howard Beale's to stand up to the bullies in power and shout

"You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, Goddamnit! My life has VALUE!'"

"So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell,  'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it:

"I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

Mike- No is the time to start screaming and yelling and yes now is the time to be mad. Now is the time to feel let down and trampled on by those that were sworn to protect us, not abuse us. Now is the time to shake the foundations of what we consider wrong in an effort to build a better tomorrow. It can be done, but people will have to get fired up first.

I remember visiting my grandmother as a child. She always made these god awful grilled cheese sandwhiches with govmt cheese. I had no idea what govmt cheese was but I knew I didn't like it or her grilled cheeses. When I learned what govmt cheese was and how you got it by waiting in line I swore I'd never eat another govmt grilled cheese and so far so good.

Thirty years later..... some of my cousins and aunts and uncles just realized you could get free cheese and they are still waiting in line for the next handout. They couldn't care less who is in the white house as long as they get their cheese.

Problem is....more and more people are getting this mentality.

The best thing I can do is keep talking to people about it, live by example and teach our 8 kids that this mentality is WRONG.

I agree with you 100%.

Cheri'- I too have family that is more than happy to stand in line and wait for the next hand out. It's sad that this is becoming the norm for peoples attitudes. I would rather fight my way through life and earn my way too.

There are so many people out there that expect the government to take care of them from cradle to grave that it is sickening.  The silent majority is pretty much the silent minority anymore.  More people expect a handout than expect to earn a living.

I personally have major issues as well with the government.  As long as their are two aisles, left or right, conservative or not, our country is going to hell in a hand basket.  I pity our future generations.
