The pelican has always fascinated me - even as a child, when we would go out fishing, these large birds would immediately fly up to the boat and wait for handouts! I remember the first time I saw a pelican take a fish from my father, throw it up in the air and catch it, head first, as it slid down the throat! I was amazed!
Things have not changed that much - pelicans are all over the bay and frequent all the fishing spots! They wait for handouts but when that isn't working, they dive in for their meal! And catching one of these magnificant birds in flight is something to see!
This is just one more thing that I love about living in Pinellas County, where we are surrounded by water! Located between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, what could possibly be a better place to live???
