Snow comes to Va. So it was time for a few pics.

Since I've been in Va(3 yrs) we haven't had more than a dusting. Now this is quite a change from NY where snow was about a 6 mo normalcy and not just a dusting. Think feet and several times a winter. We had what you called "lake effect snow" because it came off of Lake Ontario. If you know what a blizzard is then you know what lake effect means. Below is a pic of one of those lake effect snowfalls.

pic

I haven't missed the winters or the snow at all. I have to laugh at the folks that have lived here all their life or for many years. They can't wait for the white stuff. I always tell them I'll ship you plenty from NY. Somehow they don't want that kind. I can't imagine why. Well yesterday and some this morning we got some of that white stuff and a bit more than a dusting. TRY 8 inches. It sure is pretty, but the nice thing about snow in VA vs NY. It will BE gone by weeks end because it will be in the 60's by Thurs or FRI.

Back in NY if we knew lake effect was on it's way then we would go to the grocery store because a lot of times you could easily get snowbound. Well I had a interesting experience of that VERY thing yesterday in the grocery store. OMG, it was like BLACK FRIDAY. The lines were half way around the store. It was unreal. I hate to shop in a store when it's like that. I went out only ONCE on Black Friday to get something for my MOM. I left the house by 6 am. NEVER again. That is SO not enjoyable for me. NOW, I either got lucky or people preferred to stand in that neverending line. I'm not sure which. They have those checkouts where you scan your own groceries and bag them as well. NOT rocket science. The line for those wasn't long, so I got behind a fellow that was just finishing up so I was in and out rather quickly. It was just a rather funny and an interesting event to see the stores like that in March in the south.

I awoke this morning to the most snow they have had in Va for 9 years. GO FIGURE! I went out and took pics and attempted to build a snowman. I forgot how much there was to building one so I don't have pics of that. A big funny looking lump at the bottom of the slide is what it looks like before I had to concede that this wasn't going to happen. My friend from NY thinks I'm crazy. That would be true, but it was still fun. I didn't have to shovel it or snowblow it and I got to throw snowballs at the maintenance guys.  NOW that is what I can my kind of snowfall. Somebody else doing the work. I would have got on the 4 wheeler that they used but the guy wouldn't give it up.

That would have been fun, but when it is -20 below outdoors and you have to get out in it and you get done snowblowing and the snowplow comes by and fills in the end of your driveway with that heavy wet snow. That isn't so fun, either is not having it start because ice froze in there and you have to lay on a cold cement floor and try to thaw it out with a hairdryer that keeps over heating so you can eventually can get out of your driveway. That was wintertime in NY for many years. Now today was FUN. It didn't look like the above pic but it was most definitely measurable snow for the first time for me in 3 yrs. Here are part of my pics for the day. I like a 5 day snow instead of 5 month snow anyday.

ALL IN ALL IT WAS A FUN DAY HERE IN VA. I GOT TO PLAY IN THE SNOW WITHOUT THE WORK. THAT WILL BE GONE IN LESS THAN A WEEK. ALL THE NATIVE SOUTHERNERS ARE HAPPY CAUSE THEY GOT SNOW AND MY BABY GIRL GOT TO BE OUTSIDE AGAIN. OF COURSE TOMORROW I HAVE TO WORK TWICE AS HARD TO MAKE UP FOR GOOFING OFF TODAY BUT THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF WORKING FROM HOME. YOU CAN WORK WHEN YOU NEED TO AND AS EARLY OR LATE AS NECESSARY TO GET THE JOB DONE.

They were calling for about 5" of snow here in Columbia of all places last night and into this morning, but nothing really happened. My cat is 2 years old and has never seen snow.

Hi JL-Well depending on whether or not you wanted to see that 5", then it is either a good thing or a bad thing. I did here Ga got snow though. Maybe it went all around you. Lindsey hadn't seen snow in several years so she did enjoy being out, at least for a while and when she got out of it and on the sidewalk she shook her feet. It was rather comical. Thank you for commenting. Always appreciated. Have a great week. :-)

Glorious pictures Sharon. I can relate to the southerners with the snow. Two to three inches and it is a blizzard here LOL. At least you have enough to make some decent snowmen.

Hi Gary-You would swear to God the world was coming to a end yesterday with all those people in the grocery store. I think it was actually worse than at Christmas time. There was plenty to make LOTS of snowmen. My body wasn't appreciating it though. OH well I tried. Got wet gloves and a rather interesting clump of snow. That will take a while to melt. Thank you as always for your support. Have agreat week. :-)

ToulaRosebrock.comHi Sharon:

We had a good 8 inches here in NJ also.

My dogs loved it...my kitty doesn't go out at all, she would hate it anyway.

Good Morning Kristen-It is indeed nice ONCE in a while. I remember all too well the NY weather though. Pretty much like yours. Lindsey was always a outdoor kitty and would go out in the snow back in NY. She wouldn't always stay out in too long but she did love the outdoors and in the summer she was out most of the day. I know she misses it. She has a little step to get up in the window here so she gets to look out. Have a great day. Gotta go see yours. I missed them and Toula's as well. You two are generally always my 1st 2 commenters which I appreciate. :-)

Hi Toula-Lindsey loves the outdoors but she doesn't go out much at all where I live now. Have a great week. :-)

You are fun !

Your kitty looks a little hesitant in the first pic, but is knee deep in the second so she must have taken the plunge...

Fun post ! Hope you enjoyed the white stuff !

Cheers

Hi Sharon- I was thinking the same as Sheldon, it really is 8" on the (.)  Or did you go around looking for 8"  I think you could have found 15" in some of those snowdrifts.  Look at your car, nonononono....who owns one of those little windshield thingies in the south.  Well at least you and Lindsey had fun.....better you than me ;-)

Personally, Sharon, I've had enough of the white stuff for life :)  It's the first time they've closed down NYC schools in 7 years....I believe we got 15" -- and the Grocery stores were horrendous!!  We DO stock up!

Howdy Sheldon-Thank you I appreciate that. You are also lots of fun. Now how was I supposed to know how deep it was it I didn't measure it.  I did have lots of fun but I was nice and didn't hit any of the maintenance guys with a snowball. It was real packy snow too. Still have some of it. Lindsey hasn't been out in SO long I'm sure she forgot what snow was like. She headed up the sidewalk and walked to the door and in she went. It was funny watching shake her back feet to get the snow off though. OK, The clock is ticking. <SMILE>

Hi Gail-That is right outside my door. I don't think there drifts. If there was I didn't go looking for them. I drive around to get some of the pics but didn't take my ruler with me. You are funny Gail. Windshield Thingy. That would be a snowbrush my dear. I brought mine from NY and if I didn't have one I would use a broom.  We did have fun. I don't miss NY winters but every 3 yrs for 5 days I can live with. Have a great week. :-)

Hi Carole-I understand completely. That is why I live in the south now. I have most definitely had enough for life myself. In NY you have to stock up. NYC doesn't have the equipment to handle a lot of snow from what I hear. Have a great week. :-)

Hi Debi-All the southerners were overjoyed and if we don't get it for another 9 yrs that would be alright with me. I had fun yesterday but I remember all to well the winters in NY. Gee Debi you sure do look young for your age if you can remember back 107 yrs. LOL Lindsey did enjoy it. But I know her feet got cold. She is 14 so no young kitty. It is nice to see your smiling face on my post. Have a great night. :-)
