$8 Haircuts to Jumpstart the Economy!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Coeur d'Alene AB37665

I couldn't help but smile when I read in this morning's paper that a local barbershop has an idea to jumpstart the economy, with scissors and hair!

According Legends Barbershop to co-owner Daniel Abrahamson, "Our idea of a stimulous is $8 haircuts.  We all need to get on board, we have a real problem here," he said.  He believes the economy can rebound if everyone works hard and offers good service for a reasonable price.

StarfishI think this is his version of Bloom Where You're Planted.  And how true that concept is! None of us individually can fix the economic woes our nation is mired in, but each of us CAN do SOMETHING to make a difference.  Do you remember the story about the kid, seeing thousands of starfish stranded on the beach at low tide, throwing as many as he could back into the ocean?  An old timer approached him and told him he was wasting his time, there were thousands of starfish, and he couldn't possibly save enough of them to make a difference.  The kid tossed another into the water and replied that it made a difference to that one!

Abrahamson and his partner Debbie Hisig are co-owners of the barbershop which recently opened at 1801 Lincoln Way.  Recent transplants from the Seattle area, they love their work and consider their customers like their family.  I think I will stop in today and shake their hands.  Meanwhile, the world would be a better place if we all followed their example.  Let's consider what we can do personally to help jumpstart the economy in our little piece of the world.

Janna, I love the story of the little boy saving the starfish! He will grow up to be a humanitarian! Jumpstart the economy is a great concept and I hope that many retailers get on board to help us back to the pursuit of happiness!

Home is where the hearth is.

Not so long ago a small town barber found himself facing some financial difficulties. For years he'd been the only barber in town, and had made a reasonable, if not a good living at his trade. One day a large haircut salon franchise came to town. The big sign painted on the franchise's window said, "All haircuts – $3. Walk-ins welcome." Three dollars? He had been charging five. He couldn't survive if he tried to beat his competition's price.

The next morning he hung a huge sign over the shop's plate-glass window. The sign read: "We Fix $3 Haircuts!"

That's a great idea...hopefully others will jump on board.  Every little bit will be helpful.  Maybe I can talk the local Mercedes dealer into jumping on the bandwagon....

Hey Janna, Cute stories!  As I wrote on our local blog ... how each of us need to the take initiative because recovery will inevitably come from the bottom up, in our local market.

A great marketing idea. Prices are the best incentive for any product/service.

Heck, I just line my family up on the front porch with the clippers and go to town! Since we are pretty far away from a barbar shop I've been thinking about opening up "Porch-Cuts" and invite me neighbors to drop on by any time the car is in the driveway! LOL! Great post!

Cute and funny We pay $10 here but there is a guy that has been around for 100 years it seems and he charges $5 but he so busy you can't get in and he doesn't take appointments. People will sat around for an hour waiting on him, but the conversations are worth the wait, It men only too.

Fantastic post Janna - I think Barber shops are cultural icons. People need to not only feel as though they are getting a deal but also the social atmosphere Barber shops provide. I applaud you for sharing that wonderful barber shop with the rest of us! Congrats on the feature!

I'm a Realtor and a hairstylist!  I have a salon in my home and I offer a real discount compared to what the salons are charging.  I was thinking about doing something similar to this for the families in my neighborhood.  This extra money really helps since the real estate market has gotten so slow.  Great post, and a great reminder.  Congrats on the feature!!!
