On the heels of several recent posts about walking on roofs, comes a flat roof on a garage/carport that I would not walk on.

They just don’t get any worse than this prior to being bulldozed.  I would say that this roof is a good 20 to 30 years past its expected life.

Really bad flat roof in Seattle

     Here is an interior shot.

Perhaps the biggest concern with structures like this is when there are kids around that might play in or around them.  This was a house that was a short sale----so it is not likely that the bank is going to do anything about this safety issue.

If the roof collapsed on a bunch of kids using this as a “hideout” would the bank be liable or would the kids get arrested for trespassing?

Scary, scary stuff Charles. I would say the bank would get away with it unless the parents could secure a good attorney. Here in Pa as I would imagine every where, there are awesome firms that will sue on your behalf and take a decent chunk of the winnings for their services.
The kids would not get arrested and if they did the charges would be dropped, politically incorrect to arrest injured kids for being after all, kids. As for the scenario, well ... we all know it will continue to play itself out some place else.

Suesan---tomorrows post will be an addendum to this story:)  These vacated homes could get to be a real problem.

That's one bad roof!  Even kids should know better than to play on it.

For ruining a comfortable, restful spot like that, I vote trespassing!!  Torches and pitch forks - run 'em out of town!!

Very kindly,

So this roof has a few "skylights". What's the big deal?

Jim they aren't a total pain like the ones that get all dirty so you can't see through them----or the ones that fog up.

Charlie - until seeing your posts, I did not know so much moss existed in the world!  And they make beer out of it?  Must be an area full of lushes then, plenty available for brewing.

I am not an alcohol drinker, but maybe a little moss salad?  Dip?  Soup?

Moss Pesto perhaps?  I probably have 2-3 beers a year----and occasionally a glass of wine.  There would not be much of an alcohol industry if they relied on me:)

Croakster is a meat eater.

Well, meat, so to speak.  Carnivore might be a better word.  He likes to cruise the pond on Carnivore Cruise Lines.

GOOD one!  Either works for me...  and probably Croakster too.  He doesn't care how his food might happen along.  Just that it does.
