PENN YAN - Residents and community members are invited to join the Waterfront Revitalization Program Committee for a walking tour of the Keuka Lake waterfront on Thursday, May 17.
The purpose of the walking tour is to envision what can be done to enhance and revitalize the waterfront area. Committee members will walk specific areas of the waterfront, and the public is welcome to join the tour in order to give suggestions and comments to the Committee.
The tour is part of the conceptual planning process now underway to help document what steps can be taken to revitalize the area and how these steps can be accomplished. In conjunction with the Village of Penn Yan, the Town of Milo and the Town of Jerusalem, Yates County has received a $28,000 grant from New York State's Quality Communities Program to fund this conceptual planning process.
The 14.8-acre former Penn Yan Marine property, currently owned by Yates County, forms an integral part of the waterfront and will be the final destination point of the walking tour.
The tour is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at Red Jacket Park, move to Indian Pines Park at 2:00 p.m., and at 3:30 p.m. start from the Village of Penn Yan's boat launch and walk around the Outlet to the Penn Yan Marine property, ending there at approximately 5:30 p.m. The tour will take place regardless of the weather. Participants are responsible for their own transportation.
The Waterfront Revitalization Program Committee includes representatives from each of the four municipal jurisdictions as well as representatives of community and business organizations. The firm of Stuart I. Brown Associates, in conjunction with Ingalls Planning and Design, has been hired to develop the conceptual plan.
