The quote above is a life lesson from T. Boones Pickens.  Here's a couple more!

"When you're hunting elephants, don't get distracted chasing rabbits."

"Work eight hours and sleep eight hours, and make sure that they are not the same eight hours."

These motvational quotes came from Bob Corcoran's interesting and inspiring article with great business tips, at http://www.brokeragentsocial.com/article/187/the-foolproof-sales-plan-for-2009, as published by BrokerAgentSocial.com.

"The bottom line of T. Boone's quote is this: planning can even make a fool smarter.  That's why I recommend that if you do just one thing to prepare for a prosperous 2009, make sure it's to create a sales plan. And I'll help you get started here. Because all indications are that 2009 will continue to look the way 2008 looked," says Bob.

Tips include:

- Stay focused on what matters

- Optimize your lead management

- Improve your sales technique

- Perform a SWOT analysis

And his final tip: "Have someone hold you accountable to your plan."

Regina, that's all too true! We had a meeting today where we discussed concentrating on our strengths, really focusing on doing the basics that we love to do and making a commitment to keep at it.

Vickie & Patrick:  I've learned that being "smart" is not an automatic ticket to success!  Robert Kiyosaki talks about that a lot, that anyone can succeed if they simply follow a good system.

I know that I should perform a SWOT,

Then make a plan what to do or not.

Oh, the next rainy day,

"God give me time" I pray

A battle within one's self is hard fought.

Great Post, but what is a SWOT?  I'm making a plan...I'll definitely be a fool with a plan.

Regina,

It is amazing what we learn from the saying of others.  I am glad that someone asked for definition of SWOT.  Now I know and will use that in my next class, too.

I hope the sun in shining in CA.  Here on Lake Erie we have a beautiful sunny, but cold day. NO SNOW--so I am happy!

Mary, YES it was sunny here on the coast of CA today... glad it was sunny on Lake Erie, even though a little cold.  We do get snow here in CA also, but it's way up in the hills.  I have to travel 3-4 hours inland, to the mountains, to get to the snow.

I started a coaching class in 2009.  (First time ever).  The first thing we did was create my plan for 2009.  Then my coach worked backwards from there as to what I'd have to do each month to accomplish the plan.  Then she broke it down into weeks.  I've learned we must have a planner for each week with specific goals.  ALSO my coach does hold me accountable when we review.

For a while i was against coaching.  The more I thought about it the more I realized to be great at something you must have a coach.  Whether it is business or sports.

I liked your post and this is just my opinion.

Regina - Thanks for passing along the information.  We met about a month ago with our three offices and went through a basic SWOT anaylsis.  We do this on an annnual basis.  We're also big believers in accountability and have a partner we meet with weekly to discuss our action plans.  I know this helps keep us on task.  Best of luck for your continued success.
