The smoke isn't so bad here in Daytona Beach today. We have what's left of Sub Tropical Storm Andrea of our coast that blew the smoke somewhere else and I thought our Airport Road Fire was out.

                                      NOT SO.

I just finished reading the Daytona News Journal and not only is the Airport Road not out, it has gone from 60% contained to 45% contained in the last day.

On the up side it is smaller, down from 6,800 to 6,100 acres. Some firefighters have also left, their numbers are now 164 down from 190. I hope that means officials are still optimistic that even though containment numbers have dropped they think they won't need as many firefighters on the fire lines.

I don't know if they are still using aircraft on this fire, there was no mention of it. I may take a drive (since it isn't that far) this weekend and see what kind of photos I can get. This post is a bit boring! But I can do this for you photo fanatics! Click on here.. Florida In Flames 2007 It is a link to our News Journal Photos, there are some pretty amazing photos for you there!

Meanwhile across our state of Florida many other fires are still out of control.

The huge Georgia wildfire that has now spread into Florida is called The Bugaboo Fire and has burned 82,500 acres, I believe that is in both states. There are mandatory evacuations in place along HWY 441 and I10 to the FL State line. This fire just doesn't want to stop. I believe it has been burning since mid April.

The Dairy Road Fire, the one that caused so much smoke here on Wednesday in Bradford County is still burning, and has burned 18,000 acres, it was started by lightning.

The Balso Fire in Collier County near Naples is still burning also. 15,913 acres burned, 3 homes and 3 outbuildings were "destroyed" so far. I hope no one else loses their home. No containment information. This fire was also started by lightning.

The Blackcreek Command Fire in Walton County is holding pretty steady at 1,035 acres, 1 subdivision has been evacuated. This fire again, started by lightning.

Some major highways have been closed due to heavy smoke, like "Alligator Alley" Here is a link to Road Closures throughout the state of Florida. Or you can copy and paste this web address into your browser: http://www.eoconline.org/EM_Live/roadstat.nsf

Lysa: We have a pretty large fire going in the Boundary Waters area of Northern Minnesota, LA has a huge one going, and I don’t where all else. This is truly a hot, dry spring!

Hi Jay, I've heard about your Boundry Waters fire, isn't it really large, 10,000 or 100,000 acres? A reckless camper started it I believe :(. That so angers me... lightning started fires are one thing, but when a human starts one, oh don't even get me started. The fires in CA are scarey, they are in such populated areas!
Thanks for stopping by!

You can still smell the smoke from the Murano fire. Of course, it doesn't help living in a valley. -Charles

Lysa,

Thanks for the updates. I know it must be rough in some areas. Hope the rains come soon (without the lightning)

Charles, I looked at the plans for the Murano community and can imagine the smoke, it seemed pretty large. Our smoke is bad again here today. The winds have died down.

Gary, Thanks for stopping back by! I know we were hoping to get a lot more rain out of Andrea. Unfortunately in the summertime here, our rains come with the lightning. Everyone will be holding their breath.

Neal, I can believe it (about the headache) But I think you may want to keep your clothing away from the fires...
