So I was doing my morning thing of leaving breadcrumbs around and I thought I would share with my active rain buddies what that is...

It can become OVERWHELMING when you hear that you need to

  1. Have a website
  2. Have a blog
  3. Join Twitter
  4. Join LinkedIn
  5. Join Facebook
  6. Join MySpace
  7. Make comments
  8. Write articles
  9. Do Squidoo
  10. ON AND ON AND ON!

So how is everyone else doing such a great job at all of this when you don't have time to check your email let alone try and sell a house?!?!?!

I do it by thinking of everything online that I do as breadcrumbs leading back to my MAIN SITE. You MUST pick one main focus of your internet presence. In my business I drive everyone to www.MarketingArtfully.com. There are links on MA to my other stuff, like information about my speaking and Thrive product BUT there is also tons of information for agents and small business owners - FOR FREE. If you are an agent, think about what you can offer for free on your website so that if someone comes there they will want to stay and start to consider YOU an expert!

Everyone on active rain has a blog - make sure your profile helps send people to your main site (which could even be your active rain blog site OR your outside active rain blog). Whatever you do from now on, make sure that you include PROMINENT links to your main site!

Social Networking like Twitter and LinkedIn allow you to have a profile WITH LINKS TO YOUR MAIN SITE. You can also see what your friends are doing and comment or send new invitations. It is a great way to show your personality without having to spend tons of time.

Make comments - on your comments make sure you have links back to your site (this tip is courtesy of Sean Goerss who left a comment on my blog today with links to his twitter and linked in pages - I LOVED IT AND SIGNED UP)

SOOOO how can you get the time to do all this? FIRST - add to your main site at least 2X per week (1 Hour each) then spend half an hour on the other days popping in on your social networks, making comments and doing assorted other online stuff. If you do it 7 Days a week that will only take you 4 and half hours a week!!!! If you spent 4 and half hours a week for a year you would have a HUGE internet presence and undoubtably more business!!!!

Good post Tara, i struggle with the time investment all the time!

I'm getting better at linking different media so I don't have so much.

I like your approach! It is a great solution to the dilema of trying to be everywhere at one time, and still having time to make a living. Thanks for sharing.

@ Drew - I LOVE that linking different media!!! I have "hooked" my squidoo pages to facebook and twitter which is really uber cool!! You got any other good linky ideas?

@ Dawn - I am all about doing it the easy way. Success isn't glamorous but it doesn't have to be THAT frustrating either!!!

tara - you ALWAYS have such wonderful tips and advice!  I would like to add the links to my comments but I think some people get upset about that.  Maybe it is best to act for forgiveness?   ;0)

@ Leesa - I think like that sometimes too, not sure if the other blogger will be upset BUT I was not upset and was actually glad to have the ability to check out Sean's info easily. I am a TOTALLY ask for forgiveness not permission girl and you are ALWAYS welcome to put your links on my comment pages!!!

A little bit at a time adds up.  Gradually over time it will pay-off.

Tara - I agree that every little bit helps.  I think that all of your efforts need to point to your one main site, and that should be very user friendly, and have something to make the people come back to again and again.
