Yesterday after a decision was made that stents would not be the answer to the multiple blockages my brother had, he had quadruple bypass surgery performed....very successfully and at this moment is recovering in San Diego and we know will be be better for having done this though it was not his wish to have surgery as invasive or as the recovery as long. Looking at the bigger picture...we all know that the longer lasting benefits and the more thorough resolution were exactly the right thing to have done...and eventually while he was not happy about it...he will see it as the life saving measure that it was and join the rest of us in celebrating the success and wonder of the technology that made this all possible.
During the surgery I spoke with my sister who was patiently and nervously knitting in the light and bright waiting area which she said was bathed in sunlight and even had a grand piano with someone playing soothing music in the background. I was the person in not as splendiferous an atmosphere for both parents a few years ago when they were in that same position of being the open heart surgical patient. My mother was 80 and still holds the record at St. Luke's for the fastest most complete recovery from open heart surgery in the shortest amount of time. She is spunky....and at 87 still swims 3 times a week, is overly careful of her diet...and everyone else's....and is a very socially active lady.
My Dad was not as fortunate...and got a staff infection and giamme barre...and spent the last 2.5 months of his life, much of it intensive care...I was there every day 8-12 hours a day and would have done anything to be able change the course of events that ended his life on March 11th.
I digress....this was supposed to be a thank you...and now it's slobbery and tear stained...and know that every keystroke, phone call, thought and prayer that each of you sent...whether we saw it, read it or God heard it...was so appreciated....Thank you from the bottom of OUR hearts...
