I was checking in on my Facebook world first thing this morning, and that catchy title caught my attention.  My darling college freshman daughter, Kristen, posted a link with that title and a brief comment that she was changing her major.  My first thought, "Ahhhh, she feels loved."  Her dad and I just painfully forked over her last tuition installment the other day, so I knew she wasn't in need of tuition $$$$$ right now.  That line fits her so well.  As long as she is loved, and has tuition money, all is right in her world.

But wait, what was that about changing her major.  Huh?  She has always been excited about her Marketing Kristenmajor. My second thought was "Uh oh, now what?"  My mind immediately went back to this time last year.  I found out from my neighbor which of the colleges to which Kristen was accepted that she chose to attend.  Judy found out from her daughter, who found out on... Facebook!  At that moment I went and joined Facebook, and have enjoyed stalking my children there ever since.  It seemed only fitting that Facebook would be where I learned of her change of major.

I clicked the link to find an interesting story out of London.  A university in Liverpool has launched a Master of Arts degree in The Beatles, the city's most famous sons, and called the qualification the first of its kind.  Liverpool Hope University says on its website that the course entitled "The Beatles, Popular Music and Society" consists of four 12-week taught modules and a dissertation.  "There have been over 8,000 books about The Beatles but there has never been serious academic study and that is what we are going to address," said Mike Brocken, senior lecturer in popular music at Hope.

Now, that does sound like a fun course of study, and Kristen's middle name is Fun.  Could it be that she is actually planning to head off in a new academic direction, via Liverpool?  It's too early to call her, but I am going to guess not.  Because of that part in the title about needing... tuition!  Wherever she wanders, she will always have our unconditional love.  But that need for tuition will temper her wanderlust for adventure, at least until she graduates!

Janna, I truly understand the stalking thing, that is how I get up to date info on my grown children too! Oh and I learned to text so that I could communicate with them too!!! Technology is standing in the way of personal communication, but oh well, I guess that is "progress"??

Caren, Sandy, Maryellen - Facebook has been wonderful for connecting with long lost friends from decades ago, as well as keeping in the loop with my adult kids, my sisters and my nieces and nephews.  I had no idea when I started that it would be so cool! What's proving is a little tricky is also using it for social networking because it is so family.  I think business associates see a little more of the personal me than they need to, but oh well!
