Attempting to understand marketing

I am just amazed how much there now is to marketing yourself in today's market place.  There's mention of blogging, posts, FaceBook, Twitter, and so many other places you can go and chat, but I am completly lost and in unchartered territory.

Can someone please tell me what direction is most profitable and will get my business name out there.  I don't mind putting things together, creating class materials for e-books, teleconferences - all of which I also understand I need to do, but my head is spinning and I want to invest my time where it needs to be with some idea of sequence--you know, first start here, then work toward this.....

This is all so mind boggling - (not mind blogging)

Thanks for any help anyone wishes to stow upon me!!

Cathy-I started here on Activerain-someone mentioned it to me-and it has evolved as I learned to be comfortable here.  I have joined the groups that interest me and as I learn I add to my online presence.  So far I have received two calls that I could refer out, because they were not from my area, I have taken a listing that is pending now and due to close in the next two weeks, and I received a referral for a buyer that is moving here when their home sells in Michigan.  Not bad for about an hours work a day...I am very pleased with what I have learned here at AR.

Thank you Evelyn.  I know things will pick up once I set a schedule, read (listen) and learn as I go.

I'm looking at a lot of the Internet marketing groups on AR and hoping I can understand where to start.  In my internet searches I am taking advantage of some free audio trainings that all seem to link to the same people interestingly enough - I think that is a good thing.  At least I know I'm working with the professionals that are "out there" the most.

Cathy, you made the right first step which is ask for help. My next piece of advice would be to take it all one step at a time. Join all the sites, but take your time in creating your online persona.

Thanks!  I am looking into website templates now.  How does one know how these templates expand - meaning, have extra pages and tabs to add and such?  None of them are clear.  I've never used a template before and I have a lot of before and after photos to add.  I also want to be sure I can do my blog thing through my site (not sure if that's a template or a hosting concern).

Does anyone have any pros or cons to flash templates?
