Make My Day

By

I'm very fortunate. Five days a week I get up at 5:30 AM (That's the only misfortune) and my husband and I get the dog and meet our daughter at the Ventura Community Park for a brisk walk. This in itself is a great way to start the day.

There's one particular man we see every morning who brightens our day even more. We can see him coming a quarter mile away. I don't know exactly where he's from but he honestly has a smile as wide as the city of Ventura and exclaims in very heavily accented English "Good morning! Have a nice day!"  I believe these to be the only words he knows in our language as attempts to draw him out further have resulted in a second "Good morning! Have a nice day!"  We have dubbed him "Happy Man".

When we don't see him we're disappointed as if we've been gyped out of something. Which leads me to ponder how easy it is to affect someone else's outlook as well as our own.

We get up in the morning and after reading or listening to the news, wonder why we sometimes have a hard time putting one foot in front of the other. If we're going to get through this mess of an economy with some semblance of sanity, we all need a dose of "happy man".  More importantly, we should strive to be a little like him on some level. Why not make someone elses day just a little better if only for a while?

By the way, he's recenly graduated to giving us "high fives" as well...!

What a great way to start your day off right. All I can picture as I read this is those old yellow smiley face buttons - they always put a smile on my face when I saw one. Pass it on!
