Mastercraft Exteriors Helps Find New Ways to Be Green in 2009

USA -- Mastercraft Exteriors is in an industry which requires them to discard several tons of shingles per year.  We believe that there are better and more responsible options. The Mastercraft Exteriors staff has found several ways to lower their carbon footprint to try and offset some of the carbon output yearly. Not only are they green in their offices, they are actively searching for alternatives for the tons of discarded roofing shingles per year.  "We will continue to use all of our resources to lower our Carbon Footprint" stated, Richard Spanton Jr , Owner. Mastercraft Exteriors has never liked the idea of tons of shingles filling up landfills, so they did some research on how they could recycle them.  They happily discovered that asphalt shingles can be ground up and used to construct roads and patch potholes.  The shingles act as a cushion beneath a layer of gravel or paving stone.  This helps cut noise and dirt from traffic and absorb fuel and oil that leak from vehicles.  They also help make the roadways water permeable, durable, and resistant to water damage from freezing and thawing cycles.  Rest assured that  Mastercraft Exteriors has taken advantage of this opportunity to extend the life of the shingles!

Mastercraft Exteriors proudest green accomplishment has been the adoption of their new web-based program AccuLynx, that has allowed them to cut paper use by well over 75%.  "We now scan all paperwork into electronic format and upload it into our program" stated Katie Clark, Mastercraft Exteriors Staff.  This program enables all office staff, managers, and field supervisors to view the paperwork with the click of a button rather than printing multiple copies.  This drastically reduced the use of not only paper, but toner as well.  Mastercraft Exteriors used to change the toner in each printer (up to 50 printers nationwide) every other week, and now they cannot remember the last time they had to change it at all locations.

The rest of Mastercraft Exteriors green movements may not be as large of accomplishments, but every little bit counts!  They truly believe in Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Here are a few of Mastercraft Exteriors Green Accomplishments:

They order only recycled paper products such as paper towels, printer paper, etc. They use both sides of the paper, and printed paper for scraps. They use Method® cleaning products, which are natural cleaning products.

They purchase fair-trade organic coffee for thier morning pick-me-up.
They use fully compostable hot cups by Eco-Products, made out of corn plastic for their coffee.

**In one year Eco-Products customers saved 150,000 gallons of gas, 7380 pounds of greenhouse gases and 604,326 kW hours of energy**
They recycle all the plastic, metal, and paper that would otherwise end up in the waste basket. They use rechargeable batteries. They use reusable UPS package.

Mastercraft Exteriors has taken their green movement to the next level in 2009.
