Washington State Home Inspector Licensing -- This Could Be Interesting

For a long time, it has been the standard procedure for home inspectors to remove the cover from an electric panel and to look inside. All sorts of problems and safety issues might be found. I see that, at the next meeting of the home inspectors licensing advisory board, we will have a guest speaker.

Robert Cooley of Labor and Industries will be addressing the board on the following topic:

"Is the home inspector allowed to remove the cover on an electric panel for the purposes of inspecting the inside?"

Gee, I hope the answer is yes. Since that procedure is such a standard, and essential, part of the inspection process, inspectors will be pretty upset if they are no longer allowed to remove the cover. It would not be good for the consumer either. Not being able to do so would be a huge step backwards in the home inspection process.

Any home inspectors who would like to attend that meeting, and that talk, are welcome to come to the next board meeting. I will, in a separate post, be providing details on that meeting which is Thursday of this week.

Wow, I had no idea that there would even be a question about that. Of course HIs need to open the dead front. Talk to me about riding along with you to the meeting on this one.
