I’ve been spending some time this morning reviewing the changes Facebookhas made to its business page application. I think I like what I see!

Essentially the Facebookbusiness page will have the same look and feel as your facebookuser page. Business pages will now have customizable tabs, which were not available previously.

A HUGE enhancement is that soon posts by your business page will appear in the News Feed of you “fans”. And comments by your fans will go to their friends News Feeds. This, in my mind, will accomplish a couple of things:

  • Drive more traffic to your business page, by including the hyperlink to your page
  • Assist with the conflict of, is facebookfor personal use or does it include business promotion?

Assist with the conflict of, is facebookfor personal use or does it include business promotion? An example of how this could work is, I post a personal status update from my user profile and of course that is personal. If I want to post a business related status update I do so from my business page and it is then clear this is business related. This can be a great tool in delineating the merging of the personal and business in this popular social networking site.

Your business page will include:

  • A wall tab
  • An info tab—this allows you to share key information about your business
  • Boxes tab—where you can add applications to your business page

Your business page may also have:

  • Discussion boards
  • Video
  • Photos
  • Events
  • Flash Player
  • Reviews
  • Additional application that you may choose or develop

I still feel it is cumbersome to build a fan base for your business page.It is not as easy as adding friends. However, I’ve not been aggressive in building the fan base with the share application as I possibly should be. I think I’m going to start using the share feature more frequently.

If you are interested in creating you own business page click here for the facebookbusiness page guide.

As a “community” I think we can learn how each other may be using the facebookbusiness pages.

I invite you to become a fan of my page!

If you have a facebook business page or if you create one post your link in the comments and I will gladly become a fan of your page.

Thanks for the post Jay, I tried to figure out the business page piece on Facebook and gave up.  Maybe I need to take another look.

hi, Jay:
I was playing with it as well this weekend.  Thing is, I wish I could update both statuses(? Stati?) at the same time and/or differently.  I know - I'm a pain - I want it ALL!!!

But right now I am using Ping.fm to send updates to Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Linkedin.  I type my status in a window on my PC or on my phone, and it changes all of them at the same time.  I imagine it will take the programmers a few weeks to catch up to Facebook, so I wil lbe patient.

Thanks for pointing this out for us:  your best point above that I see is, if the changes on your business page show up on your fans' newsfeed, it saves you the trouble of having to send the share or push yourself on people.  By sending your fans' comments out to their friends, it's like Auto-Viral Advertising for you!  So, now I do not have to beg for people to become fans - hopefully, my current fans will drive interest...

Thanks for sharing this tidbit, Jay!  See you on facebook!

Michael, I can see you've been playing with you page this weekend. I think having the look and feel of "regular" facebook may assist in "fan" interaction.

When status updates begin appearing on newfeeds of fans I will probably get real aggressive in building a fan base.

This is very good information.  Optimizing your presence here, on Facebook, and at other related sites is a worthwhile activity.

Israel, thank. I think I saw somewhere you were also utilizing another real estate community blogging site. If I'm correct I'm intending to check it out.

Ginger, are you currently utilizing the business pages on facebook? Thanks for stopping by.

Jay, thanks for the great advice. I'm going to take what you have written and try to implement it myself. I still don't think I have even come close to having my Facebook work for me like it should.

Sabrina, some of the features are not occurring yet as I expected. Like status updates on the business page showing up on your own and personal page. Also my RSS feed is no longer working on the business page.

Very frustrating and not the change I was looking for.

Jay, I have been on facebook for a short time, and think I would like the business page.  Thanks for including the guide, as I haven't been able to figure out how to set it up.

Troy and Mia, facebook is improving the business page and I received confirmation yesterday my status feed from my business page did show up on the home page of my "fans".

I think this will be a tool for the merging of the personal and business on facebook. If you decide to set up a page send me a fan request. And of course I would welcome you becoming one of my fans. Click on the find us on face book button above.
