WARNING - Dangerous Form of Breast Cancer - Please Watch

This is something that everyone should watch and share with others. We all know that breast cancer can be a devastating and sometimes fatal disease if it goes undetected. Did you know that there is a form of breast cancer that is not detected through regular doctor visits, mammograms, or self breast exams? It is called inflammatory breast cancer.

I have been procrastinating about starting my fund raising for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer because I was concerned that too many people are struggling in today's economy. I received this video in my email today and the decision was made for me.

I warn you that this video is graphic and it can be very upsetting, but it is also a HUGE wake up call. This disease does not discriminate, it can happen to anyone including men.

Nothing is more important than my daughter, my mother, my sister, my cousin, my best friend (including myself and the men in my life). In other words, everyone I know and love, including those of you that I have yet to meet.

We have all heard the expression that every vote counts. That one vote can make a difference. If one vote can make a difference, then one dollar might make the difference in finding the cure for breast cancer.

I also believe that if we find a cure for breast cancer, then there is a greater likelihood that we will find a cure for other types of cancers. I know times are tough for many financially. I know that you may have been saving for something special. I know that you deserve that vacation, or new outfit. I also know that if you want to make a difference, you can. No amount is too small, a dollar does count, especially when they are added up among many.

Please visit my site and make a donation to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.  Click on the Pink Ribbon below to visit my donation page.

Pink Ribbon

Most importantly, I ask that you pass this on to your friends and family.  If anything, it may save the life of someone you know and love, or someone that you have yet to meet.

Thank you for bringing further awareness to the importance of finding a cure for breast cancer.

Really excellent post, Judy.  I'd never heard of this... I'm going to pass this along.

Alan - PLEASE do pass this along. It is so important to make as many people as possible aware of this and Active Rain is a very large platform. I have faith in our members ability to get the word out.

Thanks Judy! As a 3 year survivor-thanks for spreading the word. I actually didn't have inflammatory breast cancer, but the kind I had was hard to detect as well. My OB didn't detect it and the tumor was over 5 inches long. The tumor was spread out like a hand, so it didn't feel much different than just regular tissue. it was detected by a mammogram (thak God) at stage III (there are 4 stages)

Thankfully I am OK now after a 13 month treatment and several surgeries.

People think it can't happen to them, but I am a RN, vegetarian, low fat diet, high fiber diet, did all the right things, no family history, never smoked or drank....and it still hit me!

Over 50% of those who contract BC have no family history

Thanks for this--even if it gets just one woman to get a mammogram!

Susan - Thank you so much for your comments and your donation. I am very happy to hear that you are a 3 year survivor. What a battle you had to come back from stage III. Cancer does not discriminate as you know.  Mammograms, self exams, including looking in the mirror are all very important components to early detection. - Judy

Judy - My best friend's mom just finished her last round of radiation (she began chemo last June) - she had a form of breast cancer that wasn't detected on her annual mammogram - she went to the doctor regarding swelling and tenderness...  Thank you for spreading the news.

Judy, one of my best friends had a bizarre form of breast cancer that, through a fluke and a curious radiologist, was detected very early.  This was cancer of the milk ducts, and she had just had a clear mamogram.  Still, she felt like something just wasn't right and her ex-husband, an OB/GYN, started to ask her doctor questions.  It looks like she's going to be fine, but it was just such a sneaky disease and scary to go through it with her.

Debbie - Just about everyone you speak with has been touched with this dreadful disease, whether personally like Susan, or someone close to them. The disease sucks.

Patricia - Everyone needs to know their own body. If something is wrong ask, if you don't get answers, ask someone else. Spread the word.

Judy --Thanks for the video --- I am a breast cancer survivor --I went in for a lumpectomy and when the doctors wanted to go back in and take a little more, Boyd (husband) and I decided for a mastectomy instead. What they found was a cancer in another part of the breast that was removed that no one knew about and it was the fast growing.  I consider myself to be one lucky woman. I think it is time for me to write another blog about my experience --- I'm like you, if we can save just one person.Mama Liz's Signature

Liz - You are smart and lucky. You knew something was going on and made the difficult choice of a mastectomy. Thank God. - Judy
