Bloody Mary and The Virgin Queen
3 p.m. Film Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park. This production is a humorous musical farce based on the relationship between Queen Elizabeth I and her half-sister, Mary Tudor. The two loathed one another and yet are buried in the same tomb in London's Westminster Abbey. The production takes place in the tomb, in the present day. 35th Annual Hang Gliding Spectacular
Jockey's Ridge State Park & Jockey's Ridge Crossing (mp 12.5), Nags Head. The oldest continuous Hang Gliding Competition is going back to the past for the Classic Spectacular in 2007. Demonstrations, street dance and awards ceremonies are all features of this spectacular event. "The Forgotten Colonies: Footprints on 16th Century North America" Lecture
4:00 p.m. Film Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park. A lecture by noted NYU professor Karen Ordahl Kupperman will kickoff Roanoke Island Festival Park's lecture series "The Forgotten Colonies: Europe's Footprints on 16th Century North America." Prof. Kupperman's talk will be titled "The Roanoke Ventures' Achievement Revisited." It will take place in the Film Theater at 4:00 on Saturday, May 19, with a reception to follow. The lecture will serve as a reassessment of her 1984 study Roanoke: the Abandoned Colony, which is being reissued this year. Professor Kupperman will also be on hand for a book signing at the Museum Store from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on that same day. Dr. Stanley South, emeritus professor of archaeology at the University of South Carolina, will give the second lecture of the series on June 16. Dr. South led the archaeological team that excavated the Spanish and French sites at Charlesfort/Santa Elena on Paris Island. For more information please call (252) 475-1500.

March of Dimes- Walk America 2007
8 a.m. Outdoor Pavilion at The Roanoke Island Festival Park. The March of Dimes will sponsor this event. Registration at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:15 a.m. The five-mile walk takes participants through historic Manteo, followed by a picnic. 5th Annual Coastal Gardening Festival
The Outer Banks Arboretum and Teaching Garden, located adjacent to the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center, Mustan Street, Kill Devil Hills. The theme for this year's festival will be Art in The Garden. The focus will be on natural art, always available in the garden. Local school children will be invited to participate.
