The calendar may say winter, but signs of spring are popping up all over Southern California. These are peach and nectarine blossoms in bloom in my back yard. As I drive around the Temecula Valley, the roadsides are awash with gold and yellow wildflowers. The strawberry stands are open for business. Spring is here, baby!

I've been preparing to plant my annual vegetable garden. Over the past few weeks I've been adding soil, turning the earth and getting things in order. Yesterday I stopped by Armstrong Garden Center and picked up tomatoes, squash, hot peppers, green onions and melon as well as poppies and cosmos. This morning farmer Tom was at work planting. Over the next few weeks I'll add some corn, beans and maybe a few other things, but the garden is in. In a few months it will be time to harvest...

"peach and nectarine blossoms"...Wow...The last of the snow melted yesterday and all the 'dog stuff' appeared...BUT we do have daffodils and tulips sprouting along with the grape hyacinths...Spring may have sprung today in the Northeast...Have a great weekend!

We had a beautiful day in the 70's today. Usually have a coldsnap or two in March, and sometimes a little snow in April before the cold weather is over. Great to see you Tom.

Tom, it is starting to feel like spring.  It is one of my favorite times of the year.  I know we are still in for more snow here in Colorado, but for now enjoying this spring like weather.

Hi Tom ~ Sounds wonderful! We had our first decent day today in some time and I'm just grateful that the snow I couldn't deal with on the driveway finally melted.  Snow/rain mix due on Monday. We'll probably segue right into summer at some point.  My favorites are spring and fall but some years we're lucky to get them.

Ernie - I didn't get any bulbs planted. Your daffodils and hyacinths must be breath-taking! Thanks for your comments.

Susie - It's always a pleasure to see you. We've had a few days in the 80s, but we're back in the 60s.

Vickie - It's really been beautiful. The nice thing is it's just going to get better.

Great shots - today was pretty nice here in the Poconos as well. We've actually had 2 days back to back now with temperatures over 50. Maybe you're right and spring is round the corner.

Tom, we had beautiful weather all week, 70's and 80's for temps.  Today was a little cooler and cloudy.  We're hoping praying for rain -- something we haven't had here in a very long time.  Don & I worked in the backyard all day, trimming the crepe myrtles, pulling weeds out of the flower beds and trimming back the lillies.  We planted Louisiana Irises last summer and are anxiously awaiting blooms -- not sure we'll get any this year but keeping our fingers crossed.

Tim & Pam - Thanks so much. How's the weather in Nashville?

Susan - The Poconos - must be gorgeous! Daylight savings time is here, spring can't be far behind.

Judi - We need more rain here, too. We'll try to hang on to some of this nice weather for your July visit ;-)

Hi Tom,

Ohhhh, I'm so envious. I love gardening and LOVE spring. We're about a month and a half away from spring here in southern Ontario though. The birds have are arriving and the ground is thawing....both signs that bring hope to weary winter souls.

Beautiful pictures!

Hey Farmer Tom,

Yes it's time to "plant" in So Cal...what a great name you have!

Got 2 tomato plants (early girl & ?) and 1 cosmos in the ground right now myself.

Tom:  You've inspired me to try to have a garden this year.  I've always wanted to have one, just a small one.  Came close one year when I grew tomatoes and watermelon and a little squash.  My grandparents always had a garden and it was great fun (although I know it was hard work for them) but they loved it.  Looks like you have a great space and that's exactly what I want to do.  I think I'll get started today.  Thanks.

Lynda - Thanks. I was born with it. ;-) I just got a new Meyer lemon today. Waiting to add cucs and corn.

Donna - Glad to hear it. My garden was a disaster last year, but last year was a strange one for me. Hope you have an abundant harvest!

Hi. I used to believe that marriage would diminish me, reduce my options. That you had to be someone less to live with someone else when, of course, you have to be someone more. I am from Vatican and learning to write in English, please tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Spend time searching for the perfect clock gifts at skymall." Thanks 8). Libby.
