I find it hard to believe that very few Realtors, Mortgage Broker, or for that sake any business not using the power of FREE advertising on WWW.CRAIGSLIST.COM.   Craigslist.com is easy to use, it's getting more & more popular with all types of consumers, it can be targeted for your region and customer of choice for most anything you want to promote or sell, I find it can be addictive like blogging, it's still working when your not 24/7, reliable as long as internet is connected, there's no shipping costs to you if it's worth your drive to go get it, and did I say FREE.

The old adage of, "you get what you pay for" doesn't seem to apply here.  I find that you get way more then you bargained for.

For example I have helped many Realtors & FSBOs with Example Payment & Program Options flier for potential buyers.  I then post my fliers at craigslist.com with the attached link to the FSBO's or Realtor's listing website and WAH-LA!  The property has exposure and our business has exposure too.  Our target market is everyone worldwide that may want to see what's on the market and hopefully will purchase in that area.

I have also posted my properties to rent and have had them filled this way the last few year with qualified renters.  I have had past customers tell me they saw my picture there which is another excellent way to get in front of them in a not so in your face advertising way.

Another example is I was looking for an extra ipod docking station for my office, home, and one to leave at my parents.  Like any consumer I priced them out on line with the regular big chain electronics stores as well as mail order website.  This was about the end of January.  I just had a hunch. Christmas was just last month & many teenagers had the same mind set as my 16 year old nephew.  He had gotten an xbox 360 and already he wasn't using it he would rather sell it and use the money for his car, typical 16 year older.  So I checked out craigslist.com and I was dead on there were at least 10 listings in all the areas of all types of docking stations I found some were still unwrapped & in their boxes. I ended up with 3 for the price of 1 retail & 2 of the stations were better then what I was originally looking at.

FREE is a great price when your R.O.I. is in the 1000's of percent.  I look forward to reading your ideas on how you use free tools of the trade in your business marketing.

You make an wonderful Point and shame on me for not doing it either. One of my current clients is sending me lists from Craigs list. I assure him he is well covered  but he insisted that he loves the site. So agaon , shame on me even with his reminder.

Great Post and One that I will consider as a reminder to get with the program, :-)

William,

Glad it was useful to you.  I have aways been a bargain hunter.  And if there's any way to beat the higher & higher costs of advertising in buiness & still be most effective, I'm all over it!

Best Wishes,

Siha

I also post all of my listings on Craiglist in combo w/vflyer announcement. Why not? They are free and the vflyer postings are professional.  I've gotten a number of leads off of this method of advertising and obviously it's cost effective.

You know...I've thought of it and never done it! Some of the other things that I've thought of before their common use were the "pay per view" conception, and the "movies and games on demand" that we see in finer hotels throughout the world. I have thought about craigslist and e-bay, but just never go around to it. I agree with William...shame on us. Good post!!!

I've been using craigslist.com for about a year now.  I advertise both my services and my listings, and use it to contact FSBO's.   It doesn't get any more affordable than this! :)

HOWEVER, if you use Criagslist.com, be prepared for an onslaught of overseas scam artists that want to rent your place (even if you didn't advertise a place to rent).  I get 3 or 4 of these every day (same story).  I assume they send you a check for rent/deposit and then pressure you for a refund before the check clears.  I typicallys end a snide remark back to them and never hear from them again.  Just a word of caution.

Hello, Siha!

I've started using it although no takers yet.  It's a great tool and most of all it's free as you said.  Real estate agents have a lot of expenses and getting free ads is truly a bonus.  Thanks for the reinforcement!

I've used Craigs list with mixed results. For our area there are many agents that use it, but there are also a lot spammy posts and miscategorized stuff as well. Your geographic area will probably have a lot to do with your ROI. -Charles

To Ross & Mott's comments.  I have been lucky so far of no real major spamming problems due to my many postings on craigslist.  Maybe my computer set the spam alert on it's highest setting possible.

I hope I didn't just jinx myself....

I love Craig's list.  I probably average 8 home inspection a month from posting there.  Not bad for free huh

Hi Shawn,

I think that's great!  I think we all wished we could average 8 per month off craig's list.  Then it would be OK to charge a fee...  NAH!   You're right not bad for FREE!

I love Craigs List. I post all of my listings on there. I also use it in my marketing, when I explain how I will market a listing.

Craigs list is the right price.  I haven't seen much of significance to date.  However, I haven't given up.  Good luck.

I think Craig's List is GREAT! A recent example is I posted a listing for an apartment complex here in South Carolina on Sunday evening. Monday an investor investor in California called me to ask for more information. We are still talking.

All my listings (sales & rentals) go on Craigs List.  The last $399,000 home I posted had a contract in two days.  Yea...I like Craigs List.  If somebody's not using this free resource, they are missing out.

Hey bud, I just discovered this the other day.  It is a great tool, all you do is add in the listing information, picutures address then presto the website creates a html code that you can cut and paste into craigslist, and other free classifieds.  Check it out you will really like it postlets

It is a great place to market a home or service.  If an agent isn't putting a home in every location possible that agent is missing the boat.  Including craiglist, activerain, ..........

Hi Ben,

Good free advertising is some times more or as effective as paid advertising.  Got to let consumers know what widget you have for sale to be able to sell it.
