Frobergs

If you've ever wondered what an authentic Texas store looks like here it is.  Froberg's Vegetable & Fruit Farm, established in 1936 is located on Hwy 6 on the outskirts of Alvin and Manvel.  They grow everything here and have some of the best produce and Texas favorite foods around.  This is their new building.

Bags of pecans.

Canned goods, jam, relish, pickels, and other Texas treats.

Inside the store with produce and veggies.

Homemade candy....this is a popular item too!

This is the new smoke house, with sausage, ribs, and various other meats.

Fred and Katie Froberg started the farm as a strawberry patch where you could pick your own strawberries.  They then started growing other fruits and vegetables, and the word got out, and since then family members have been expanding ever since.  The above photo is the original location, it was outdoors under the umbrella of these huge 100 year old oak trees.

They are packed on the weekends, so go during the week.  I just happened to be doing a consultation not too far away and stopped by on off peak times.  If you haven't been here it's one of those Texas spots worth stopping at.  You can't see them from the Hwy, and you may miss their sign.

Take Hwy 6 towards Manvel.  Turn Left on County Road 149.  At stop sign (County Road 190) turn Right.

The address is:

There is nothing better than fresh, locally grown food.  I can't believe they will have strawberry picking so early.  I'm jealous, we have to wait until June in New Hampshire.

I want fresh veggies again. It has been too long!  I go to the farmers market every weekend in the Summer and I miss my delicious fresh veggies.

This was such a neat post! I would love to go for some fresh berry picking but Montana still has a little snow on the ground. Now I can't wait to go huckleberry picking this summer.

How fun Cindy. I would love to peruse that store. By the way, I am jealous that strawberry picking starts down there this Friday. We just got about 5 inches of snow! I won't get to pick fresh strawberries for many months.

Jackie-We've been in the 70's for quite a while, it's been pretty nice, great picking weather.

Is Alvin that little town where Nolan Ryan lives, or lived? I grew up watching him.

Jim-He grew up there, he now owns "The Round Rock Express" and "The Corpus Christi Hooks" baseball teams. He is also the President of "The Texas Rangers."  But he makes his home outside of Round Rock, TX.

Does any one know the  proposed plan for County Road 190 area in Alvin, Texas right out of Manvel? I have 4 treed acres facing CR 190 right next to the Decorete building. Although Froberg is also on CR 190, however, my property is nearer where CR 99 (off Hyw 6) dead ends onto CR 190.
